December 29, 2019 Episode 2 (UK Original Air Date March 20, 2008)

Tanya is lying in bed with Max. He’s asleep, and she is staring at him.
Queenie continues to reign terror in Minty and Garry’s flat. Garry asks Minty if the two grand is worth all this trouble? Garry says he thinks Minty has feelings for Heather. Minty denies it. Garry says, then let’s get them out and the babes in!
Max tries to get romantic with Tanya, but she shrugs him off. He says that Oscar is asleep. She pushes him off. He asks her what has changed? She tells him not to push her. He says he’s not. He doesn’t understand as the weekend was excellent, and they were back on track. Tanya tells him it will all be alright. She kisses him and gets out of bed.
Jane tells Ian he can’t keep searching all night, every night. Ian says he has to. Jane asked him if he’s told the police about him hitting Lucy? Ian says he hasn’t yet. She tells him Ian needs to. Ian says if he does now, they’ll think he’s been knocking her back day in and day out. He says that he will become a suspect. Peter comes down and asks his Dad if there is anything new? Ian says, no, nothing. Peter says he doesn’t understand. What can they do, Peter says. Peter says he wants Lucy back. Ian looks up at Jane.
Max comes to the doorway and calls to Tanya. She stands and tells him she’s sorry about earlier. He tells her that it’s alright. She asks him they are seeing the solicitor tomorrow? On Good Friday? He says yes, it was all she had before she goes away for two weeks. Tanya says it’s ok. She tells Max after they see her that she and Max should have an evening alone, just the two of them to celebrate. Max wonders what about the kids? She asks him if he can find someone to look after the kids? He says yes, maybe Bradley or Jack. She mentions that Jack was giving her a hard time earlier. Max asks about what? She says nothing. Maybe Jack can’t stand seeing anyone else happy. Max smiles back at Tanya and kisses her. She tells him nothing more until tomorrow once he’s got rid of the kids. Max jokes that he’ll get them adopted if he has to.
Zainab tells Shabnam she just couldn’t do it, could she? She couldn’t only lead him to romance, and she gave away it was a setup. Shabs wants to know how she knows that? Zainab covers and says it doesn’t matter as she couldn’t make him fall for her. Shab corrects her mum and says it was because Jalil was romantic with his girlfriend on the phone. Zainab puts what she listened to together with what happened.
Max stops at Dots to speak with Bradley. Bradley tells him he’s in a bit of a rush. Max tells him he just wanted to say sorry for the other day about him and the girls. Bradley asks if she’s in charge of Oscar for the day. Max says, yeah. He asks Bradley if he was serious about taking the girls out if he could do it tomorrow night? Bradley laughs. Max asks him what? Bradley tells Max that for a second, he thought he was sorry. Max tells Bradley his apology is sincere. Bradley says to his Dad that if he needs a babysitter, then he should get a babysitter.
Tanya meets Sean in the square and tells him it is on for tomorrow night. She tells him that the girls and Oscar will be gone. She asks him if he can get a van. He says yes. Tanya tells Sean they will be together very soon. It will all be over with Max. Them and the girls will be together finally. Sean tells her they need to sit down to talk about this. Tanya tells him she has it all under control. Sean tells her that she needs to know what is going on. She tells him the less he knows, the better. She walks away only to bump into Max. He asks her what that was all about? She tells Max that Sean just can’t get over it. Max asks her if Sean was hassling her? She tells him no, he’ll be fine, and there is no need for an argument. She asks if he’s got the kids sorted? He tells her that Dot can’t do it as she’s going to see his Dad. She tells him to sort a babysitter.
Max looks at Sean, and Sean walks away.
Heather tells Shirley that she and Minty almost kissed. Shirley isn’t shocked. Heather says Minty is still hung up on Hazel, though. Heather continues saying it is all so complicated with them all living together. Minty comes in. He tells Heather that he’s got some bad news. It’s all getting to be too much with the lies and all. He’s going to have to pull out of the wedding. Heather tries to convince him that it will be alright, and her mum will keep quiet. Minty tells Heather that he thinks things have gone a bit complicated between them. He says after all its only money. Heather says, yeah.
Ben quizzes his Dad if he went on a date with Shirley. Phil tells him he’s not dating Shirley and to let this be the end of it.
Ian goes to the police. He’s sitting there and jokes. He feels like he should be asking for his solicitor. The police ask why? He tells them he’s only joking. He tells them all the areas he’s been looking at every night. He tells them that he left out that the night she left, he and Lucy had gotten in an argument. He tells them he hit her. He tells them that she lashed out at him, and he struck her. He says that she is a handful. He describes her in a negative tone, and they ask if it usually ends up in a punch up, does it? The police ask him about Peter, and he describes him as a nice lad. The policewoman asks him if Lucy tearing up the invite to meet the queen was what led to the incident in the square? Ian wonders how they know about that? He wonders who they’ve been talking to and checking up on him with?
Max walks into Jacks and asks what he’s been saying to Tanya? Jack tells him he’s just looking out for him is all. Max tells him he doesn’t need him to. Jack says it doesn’t strike him as weird her just turning around? Max says he doesn’t think so. Jack says he’s just looking after him and watching his back like when they were kids. Jack recalls that Max would give a little whistle when mum was coming round the corner. Max tells him he doesn’t remember it like that. He remembers Jack getting all the attention, a right golden boy. Max tells him to leave it.
Ian is bent out of shape that the police have been investigating him. He wonders why they are giving him a hard time when he’s told them everything. They push on about if it was a slap or a punch? Did it draw blood? Ian says it was a slap, fairly hard. It did not draw blood. He tells them she slapped him first, which is why he hit her. They want to know why she slapped him. He tells them because he said some harsh things. They want to know what exactly. Ian says it was an argument, and it was private. They said it isn’t anymore. He says she trashed the house. He tells them that he said to Lucy that when her mum left, he wishes she would have gone with her. A police officer comes in and gives them a note. It seems a girl who has been living rough described someone fitting lucy’s description. They are bringing her in now. Ian smiles a big smile.
Minty and Garry are playing with the bird. Garry says now that the competition is off, they can send that thing back to mummy. Minty says he’s sorry. Heather comes in and tells Minty she’s sorry for making things weird. She asks him to reconsider, and they cut the money with her mum. She tells him no more weirdness, she promises. She’s crossing her fingers behind her back.
Tanya stops in at the slaters and drops a note in the door. Sean opens the door and asks her what this is? She tells him it’s an address. He asks for what? She tells him they’ll know when he gets there. He asks her why she can’t call him? Tanya tells him that Max saw them earlier, and they need to be more careful. Sean tells her he has big plans for his life, but going to prison is not one of them. Tanya wants him to tell her his plans. Sean says, no. Sean is not happy and tells Tanya if she wants to keep him in the dark, then she can do this all on her own. She begs him not to be like that. She tells him she needs him. She leans in and says she needs him and comes inside and closes the door.
Jalil gets a call at work, and Zainab tells him no personal calls, please. He asks if there is anything he can do? Check the takings? Do a future financial plan? She tells him he can mop the floor. He leaves his phone on the counter. Zainab looks at the girl and giggles.
Minty tells Queenie she’s all packed, and he’ll split the money with her three ways. She tells Minty to sit down and listen. She tells him she is not going anywhere until she has her money and his in her hand.
Tanya comes out of Seans and nearly gets caught by Max. She asks him if he’s found a babysitter. He tells her people are really weird. She says hmmm, you know people. He asks her where she’s coming from. She tells him she was around at Jane’s. She tells him to remember no babysitter, no night in. He says yeah, he’ll sort it. She walks off. He looks at the Slaters.
Minty finds Heather sitting on a bench. She asks him how it went? He tells her not well. In the end, he thinks it’s Garry who is moving out. Heather asks him what? She tells him she’s sorry. He tells Heather she’s a very forceful woman. Heather tells him her Dad used to joke that her mum earned her wings as a paratrooper. Minty asks her about her Dad. .She says it’s because of him she wears Alice bands. She explains she didn’t get chosen to be a bridesmaid once, and her Dad bought her a sparkly Alice band. Heather tells Minty it’s her fault, her Dad left, though, as he couldn’t stand her.
Bradley comes to tells his Dad that he’ll take the girls tomorrow night. Max tells him thanks. Bradley tells him that he’s got to stop pushing. Max wonders why everyone is lecturing him today. Bradley tells him he doesn’t know what they know. Max yells what does he know they he doesn’t. Bradley tells him that they all need time. Bradley asks Max why he’s so jumpy today. Max tells him it’s just because he wants it all back.
Heather tells Minty about how her Dad couldn’t stand her and how lumpy she was. Minty wonders how she knows this? She tells Minty that her mum told her. Minty tells Heather that her mum is a nasty liar.
Max and the girls are setting the table with Tanya comes in. She asks him what is all this? He tells her a proper meal cooked by the whole family. Except for Oscar, who is having a bit of a kip upstairs. Tanya says aww this is nice. Max says that Bradley let him know he’s taking the girls ice skating tomorrow night. Abi is excited. Lauren wonders if she’s still grounded. Max tells her not for that. They ask if Max and Tanya are coming. Max says they’ll make their own fun. Tanya looks as if she’ll be sick.
Minty gives Heather a pep talk to go set her mum straight and out of the flat. Heather says she needs more dutch courage. Minty says it’s time to get in there. Shirley tells Heather to go give it to her mum and then give it to minty next. Heather pushes past. Shirley tells Phil that EHather will be back in no time flat. She says she better get the cheesy snacks ready. Shirley walks away, and Roxy pops up behind Phil. She tells him that Shirley is gorgeous. He asks if she’s been chatting with Ben? Roxy tells him no, she means it.
Heather goes in and turns off the tv. She tells her mum to leave and go back to her flat. She tells her that she will come to visit once a week. But she’s going to have to leave and go. She tells her mum that it’s not her fault that her Dad left. If she’s going to spend her life blaming her, then that is just pathetic. But it’s not her fault that he left her and its’ time she stops blaming her, Heather says. Queenie gets up and runs out of the room.
The girls bicker a bit of banter at the dinner table. Max tells them about how Jim used to buy these candies and never give them to him, only to Jack. Max begs them to get along as he doesn’t want them to turn out like him and Jack.
Zainab tells Shabnam that Jalil’s girlfriend is right ugly. Shabnam, who is talking to Dawn, tells her that she has to get out of there.
Queenie gets in a cab, and Heather begs her to let her come with her. Queenie tells Heather that no one will ever love her, PIG!
Phil calls out to Shirley. He says she seems to be bearing up, alright. She tells him she can put on a show when needed. Ben sneaks to the top of the stairs to listen to them. She tells Phil she’s alright. Ben says, “I knew it! You two are going to do it!” Shirley says, “Ben! Don’t be so rude!” Phil tells him that he was out of order. Ben says, “well, you are!” Shirley tells Ben that his Dad is not her type as she likes a bloke with some hair. Phil tells Ben she’s not his type as she is too hard. Shirley says she’s never been into short blokes either. Phil retorts that like she gives a monkeys once she’s had a skinful. Shirley walks away.
Shabnam continues to complain about Jalil to Dawn. Dawn tells her there are plenty of blokes here. She tells Dawn tonight she pulls. Dawn says, what about him. She motions to Jalil.
Ian says that the girl was so rough and looked so sad. Jane tells him Lucy is going to be ok. Ian says that he’s forgotten the most important part is that Lucy is only 14. Instead of fighting with her, he should have been loving her. Jane comforts him again, telling him Lucy will be alright. Ian cries.
Abi comes in to say goodnight to her mum. Abi says, “this time, Dad is going to stay for good, right? Forever?” Tanya tells her, yeah. Abi tells her that Lauren says she loves mom more than Dad. Abi says to Tanya that she loves them both the same. Tanya tells her to go on, go to bed.
Jalil walks over. He tells Shabnam that it’s a bit silly, pretending they don’t know each other. He says he didn’t know she drank. She says a bit. Jalil says, “Shabnam Masood.”
Heather tells Shirley about her mum leaving and how she feels like she’s lost three stone. Shirley says she has. Shirley rubs her head. Heather asks if she is alright? Shirley tells her yeah, just a bad day at work. Heather tells Shirley that everything is going to be alright. Shirley asks her what she’s going to do now? Heather tells Shirley she’s going to marry minty because she loves him.
Max gets in bed with Tanya. She pretends to be asleep. He tries it on, and she tells him tomorrow. She asks him what was going on with all that at dinner. He tells her he just wants the girls to get on. He tells her he has something to ask her. She asks him what? He tells her to face him. She rolls over, and he kisses her and says I dunno what I was going to ask. He cradles her face and asks if they are going to be alright? She tells him that she knows he’s had his doubts, but after tomorrow night, she promises him the doubts will all be gone. Everything will be sorted between them for good. Tanya rolls over and scowls.
