October 13, 2019 Episode 2 (UK Original Air Date February 11, 2008)

The doctor shines a light into Stacey’s eyes. Sean calls out for her. Stacey is just staring off, and Sean is trying to answer the doctor, but he’s too upset about why she’s just looking off in the distance like that. The doctor asks him if she’s taken anything. Sean says no… look at her. She’s just starring off, and her eyes look like they are made of glass! The doctor yells at Sean again and asks again if Stacey has taken anything. Sean yells at him, “NO, she hasn’t taken anything.” He says for them to stop her starring at him like that. They start to move Stacey and Sean wonders where they are taking her. The doctor tells him just to stay there.
Tanya is sitting watching the DVD of Stacey and Max on the day of the wedding. The divorce hearing paperwork in front of her. She takes a drink of her wine and says, “gotcha.” Max looks out his blinds across the square and picks up his paper as well.
The doctor tells Sean that he thinks Stacey’s issue is drug-related. Sean tells the doctor just to get her right.
Tanya turns off the DVD and turns up the music and dances around the living room alone. She giggles and dances in turns. Lauren comes in and asks Tanya what she is doing? Tanya says she is celebrating. Lauren sees the divorce papers. Tanya tells her yes, it’s the first one. It’s on Valentine’s Day, and Cupid is going to take his arrow back. Lauren asked her if it’s all over then? Tanya tells her that there is no other way to go after what Max did to her and them. There is no coming back from it later. Lauren whinges that it’s just all over? Tanya tells her it is, and it’s a new start now. She rushes Lauren off to bed. Lauren turns and asks Tanya if she remembers that big Valentine’s Day card dad got her? The one she could just about hide in? Tanya tells Lauren that it was a long time ago.
Max reads his notice of the first hearing. He crumples it up and tears it into pieces.
Stacey is still starring off as the doctors work on her. The doctor comes out to talk to Sean. Sean wonders if she is ok? The doctor tells Sean that is isn’t awake yet, but she is stable. He tells Sean again that he believes this is drug-related. He wonders if there are any other family members that need contacting? Sean tells him no.
Charlie hears the phone ringing and heads to answer it. He answers questions about Stacey to the caller. Jean and Mo come downstairs and asks him what it’s all about. Charlie explains it was Steven Bealle asking if Stacey had made it home yet. It seems she collapsed at the club and was taken off by ambulance. Mo grabs the phone and asks Steven what he’s talking about.
Abi finds Lauren on the stairs and says she heard music. Lauren tells Abi it’s their mom dancing and celebrating. Abi wonders if they’ve had big news? Lauren tells her that it’s not good news. She explains to Abi that their parent’s marriage is over. Lauren says, “that stupid cow Stacey ruined everything.” Abi is upset, and Lauren goes back upstairs.
Sean is beating on the vending machine and screaming at it. He turns to look at the people in the waiting area and grabs a man who shakes his head at Sean. A child comes round the corner and calls out, “dad.” Sean lets go and apologizes. Jean, Mo, and Charlie arrive at the hospital. Jean has a go at Sean for not letting them know and demands to know what happened. She tells Sean he has to know as he was there. Jean goes on saying she couldn’t bear it if anything happened to her little girl. She demands to see the doctor. She wonders if she might know him. She melts down, and Sean tells her to pull herself together. Mo suggests they sit down and wait for the doctor to come out. Charlie asks Sean what exactly happened? Sean tells him that he doesn’t know. One minute she’s fine and the next she’s collapsing. Jean melts down again. Charlie demands to know what Sean gave her? Was it Ecstasy he asks Sean? Sean tells him again he doesn’t know what it was, and he didn’t give it to her. Jean melts down again, yelling at Sean that he supposed to protect Stacey. Mo tells them to look at Sean, he’s as guilty as sin, and that is why they weren’t told. Sean tells them if they want to blame someone, then blame Max. They all wonder what he’s got to do with it? Sean says it’s Max who put her in this state in the first place. Sean says he’s leaving, and Jean begs him to stay. She tells him she needs him and she’s scared. Sean tells her she’s always scared. Sean tells them to let him know if there are any changes. Charlie asks where he’s going? Sean tells them he’s going to put this right. Jean continues to meltdown.
Max receives a text. It’s from Abi asking if he’s ok.
Jean tells Mo she’s got palpitations, and her heart is going 100 miles an hour. Mo tells her she’s in the right place for it. Maybe she should be seen by one of the doctors. Charlie comes around the corner. He tells them that Stacey is coming round, and they think she’s going to be alright. Jean starts to cry, and thanks, God. Jean asks when she can see her. Charlie tells them they think it was GHB. Jean wants to know what that is? Charlie tells her it’s liquid Ecstasy. Mo says it’s just like last time. Jean wonders what they are talking about. Charlie tells her that someone spiked Stacey’s drink with it before. Jean wonders why anyone would do that. Charlie tells her it’s because they are evil.
Max texts Abi back that everything is fine and not to worry. Things will be ok, he says. Abi smiles. She hurriedly closes her phone when her mum comes out. Tanya wonders what she’s doing up. Abi tells her the music woke her. She tells her mum she’s going to go to bed. Tanya tells her she loves her.
Max is sitting on his couch, and Sean arrives pounding on his door and screaming for him. Sean says he’s going to kill him. He turns to see Tanya’s lights still on.
Stacey comes to with Jean, Mo, and Charlie starring at her. They ask her how she’s feeling. Stacey tells them like someone took her head off. They tell her that her drink was spiked again. Stacey wonders who said that. Charlie tells her that they just assumed. Jean says, “our Stace doesn’t do drugs or nothing like that.” Stacey tells them that the only reason “their Stace went to the club was to get off her head!” Jean tells her she should rest as she is not making any sense. Stacey asks her if she wants her to repeat it.
Sean starts banging on Tanya’s door, screaming for Max. Tanya opens the door, and Sean rushes past looking for Max. He tells Tanya that he’s looking for Max. She tells him to be quiet as she has kids sleeping upstairs. He tells Tanya it’s Max’s fault Stacey is in hospital as he tore her apart and tossed her. She’s taken some pills. Tanya wonders why she’s done that? Suicide? He tells Tanya she didn’t take them to have a good time. Abi has heard all of this and sneaks out. Abi walks to her Dad’s and is frightened as people shuffle out of the pub. She bangs on the window, and Max opens the door and asks if she’s alright.
Jean, Mo, and Charlie are trying to make sense of what has happened to Stacey. They all agree; it’s not like her. Stacey tells them they don’t know her very well, do they? They all think she needs rest, and she’ll feel better when she gets home and in her own bed. Stacey tells them she prefers it there in the hospital.
Sean tells Tanya about Stacey and how she was just starring off, her eyes all glassy like. He blames Max for this. Tanya tells him that Stacey didn’t have to have an affair. Sean tells her that Stacey was just a kid. She didn’t know what she was doing. Tanya tells him to go back to the hospital and hold his sister’s grubby little hand because it doesn’t matter what she does because he’s always going to defend her. He tells her not always. She yells at him that he sat there and watched her destroy his family. He tells Tanya he wanted to tell her and was so close to telling her, but he couldn’t’ hurt Stacey again. Tanya wants to know what he means “again.” He tells her that it has to do with when he left her alone with their mad mother. She was nine or ten when he left. Tanya asks what that has to do with anything. Sean says, “she was sweet and loving and bright.I’m amazed she’s lasted this long” Tanya tells him it’s all a load of crap. Sean tells her to hear him out. He tells her when he saw her lying there; he saw what damage he’d done. Tanya stops and looks at him.
Jean says Sean should be there with her. Stacey says there isn’t much that he can do as she’s just lying in bed. Jean asks if she can get her anything. Stacey says a new life. Jean asks if that was what this was all about? She asks Stacey if she wanted out of life? She tells Stacey she never thought she’d see the day that she would want to give up. That’s what I do, Jean says. I am the one that loses my mind, jumps at doorbells when they go off, and I’m the one who is useless. Jean asks her what she would like to do? She tells Stacey she can help and she’ll do her best she swears. She reminds Stacey she’s a fighter if there is one thing her Dad gave her. It is that. Stacey tells her mum maybe it’s nothing left to fight for. Jean tells her to look at herself! She is young, bright, and beautiful. Jean tells her she wants her up and out of bed. Stacey says that the doctors might have something to say about that! Jean continues to push Stacey to get up out of bed. Stacey yells at her to get off of her. All she wants to do is lay in this bed. Stacey tells her mum she should go as she’s about as much use as Uncle Charlie. Jean looks as if she’s been slapped by Stacey’s words. Then she sits down and tells Stacey she’s not going anywhere without her.
Mo is cheeky with the doctors. She notices Charlie isn’t responding. She asks if he’s ok. He tells her that Stacey is right and he’s rubbish. He failed her just as he failed all the others. He says that Kat was 13 and he didn’t help her. Mo said it wasn’t his fault. Charlie goes on to mention Lil’ Mo’s wedding and how he handed her off to that abuser. Mo reminds him he didn’t know. He then turns to Lynn and baby Viv and how he’s not been any help. He says he’s never been there for any of them.
Tanya comes back into the room and finds Sean still there. She tells him amazingly he hasn’t woken up Oscar. She tells Sean he should be at the hospital with Stacey. She tells him she has her own stuff going on. He says she wants to know about stuff going on. She should get a hammer and crack open his head; then, she’ll see stuff going on. Tanya tells him this is not the time or place. He tells Tanya he lied. He didn’t leave Stacey, he ran. She tries to get Sean to leave. He puts his hand on the door and tells her she doesn’t understand. He’s killed, someone.
Jean tells Stacey they can go ice skating. She used to love that. Jean tells her that she used to love going with her and her Dad. She would squeeze his hand so tight. Just when she thought Stacey would fall, she didn’t. Stacey tells her this is not helping. Stacey tells her to give it a rest, as this isn’t what she does. Jean tells her it is now, and she’s got to try. She tells Stacey she has to decide what it is she wants as it’s got to be out there. Stacey tells her she makes it sound so easy. Jean tells her it is.
Max tells Abi he can’t believe she walked across the square. Abi tells him that when Lauren told her it was over with him and Mum, she had to come, make sure he was ok. He tells her that it’s all going to be ok. Maybe this is for the best, and in the end, it’s all going to be ok. This is their new normal, and he’s always going to be there for her.
The doctor comes in to dismiss Stacey. He tells her to take it easy. She tells him it’s not her style. Charlie, Jean, and Mo are fussing at the vending machine. Charlie says, “I bet Stacey wishes she never came through their door. Come and stay with us, I said. I’ll look after you.” Mo tells him he was the man her little girl fell in love with, and if she was good enough for her, then it was enough for her. She reminds him he took her in when she had nowhere to go. Charlie still feels like he’s failed. The doctor comes out to tell them they can take Stacey home.
Tanya tells Sean she wants him to leave. He tells her it ain’t gonna happen. Tanya asks him why he’s really there? He tells her he’s still deciding. She tells him maybe if he told her the choices she could help him. He tells her maybe he’s here for her. She grabs the wine bottle, and he says he was wondering when she would get around to it. He tells her he drained the bottle for her. He tells Tanya to kill him.
Jean, Mo, and Charlie find Stacey’s already left.
Abi and Max are snuggled on the sofa. She asks him about the DVD and what if her mum didn’t have it. Max says she does, though.
Sean tells Tanya to come on; one hit should do it. A hit right to the temple should do it. In some cases, a hit is just as sharp as a knife or a bullet. Tanya looks at him, frightened. She asks him if he hit someone? He tells her he didn’t have much choice. He didn’t appreciate being lied to. She tells him that is some temper. Sean tells her they tried to tell him his mum was alright, that she wasn’t ill. So he did a Stacey. He tells her he went out night after night getting off his head. He tried to block it out, but he couldn’t. It just kept getting louder and louder, and he kept coming at him until he cracked, and he lashed out with a hard right. The next day he was gone, gone forever. Tanya asks Sean who he’s talking about. He tells her it was his Dad.
