Jay is walking in the square, and he stops to look towards Dot’s window. Inside, Dot is talking to Georgie and telling him that he has to keep his strength up for when Robin comes back. She tells the bird that they’ve both got to believe that.
Ian tells Jane he’s changed his mind and doesn’t want Christian under their roof one minute longer. Jane tells Ian that they were just having a laugh and having fun. Ian yells that he’s a bad influence. Jane tells him, “FINE! Have it your way! But if you think I’m going to stand behind that counter scraping bacon fat for the rest of my life, then you’ve got another thing coming, mate!” Jane slams the door behind her.
Jase, Dawn, and Summer are coming out of his flat onto the square. Dawn is going on about how posh the other mums were, and she’s not married. She asks him if Summer looks better in yellow? Jase tells Dawn that Summer seems perfect. Jay walks up to them. Dawn determines she needs to change Summer into yellow and walks away telling Jase to meet her in the cafe in 10 minutes. Jay asks his Dad if he knows Mr. Branning? Jay wonders if he’s going to be alright. Jase tells him he’s not sure and is curious as to why he’s asking. Jay says it’s no reason. Jay walks towards the flat door.
Roxy comes in guns blazing for Ronnie about not spending time with her. She doesn’t see Ronnie walk away.
Christian is sitting looking at Jane’s book. Ian walks in and says he bets Christian loves it. Showing up out of the blue and stirring up trouble. Christian tells Ian not to worry he’s going for a run and he’ll collect his things. Ian tells him he’s sussed him. Christian asks him, “How many wives is it, Ian?” Do you think Jane’s happy skirting after you? Ian says that Jane loves her job, and he knows his wife better than Christian. Christian asks him what book Jane is reading then? Ian doesn’t know. Christian tells Ian that one day, Jane is going to wake up, smell the coffee, and leave like all the rest of them. Christian grabs the book and forces it into Ian’s hands.
Jay is out looking for Dot’s budgie. Shirley holds incriminating photos of Masood. Mas and Zainab walk by. Masood and Shirley give each other a look.
Hazel pops round the arches with teas for Minty and Garry. Garry and Minty tell Hazel they are busy. She is sad and leaves the drinks for them.
Ian is reading Jane’s book.
Shirley comes in and mails a post. She purposely leaves the photos on the counter. Shabnam finds them.
Heather is planning, and Hazel is not in the mood. Hazel is determined that Minty is gone off her. Heather tries to convince her he hasn’t. Hazel replies that he was out until 2 am the night before and she blames herself because of the mention of line dancing. She’s determined he’s lost interest. Hazel says she should just pack her bags and leave now before he tells her. Heather convinces her she can’t go without sprucing herself up and showing him what he’d be missing. Hazel thanks Heather for being a good friend to her.
Shabnam and Masood are discussing what happened in the club. They decide not to mention last night to Zainab. As they are talking about the photos, they turn to see Zainab flipping through them.
Heather goes to Minty to tell him that Hazel thinks he’s leaving her. He walks towards home and sees Jay carving in the swings. Minty asks him what he’s doing as he’s meant to be in school. Jay is cheeky and says Minty is meant to be in retirement. Minty grabs Jay. Jay yells for him to get off. Tegs and the E20 gang show up. Tegs tells Minty that Jay is one of theirs and if it has to do with Jay, then it has to do with them all. Tegs asks Jay if he wants him to slice him and put it online. Jay says he’s past it and Minty should go and have a lie-down. The E20 gang is proud of Jay.
Ian is full-on reading the book. Christian comes in, and Ian demands to know what Christian meant. Christian tells Ian that he puts no effort into himself. Christian tells him he can help.
Tegs and gang stop in front of Dot’s. Tegs wants to know if Jay grassed them up. Jay tells him he’s not a grass.
Garry and Minty talk about Hazel and how she is suspicious. Minty tells Garry he has to tell Hazel he can’t go through with the wedding as he’s not ready yet with the line dancing. Hazel comes out, and Garry hangs up quickly. Hazel tells Garry that of all the men, Minty was the loveliest and the only one to get her this far. She tells Garry that Minty’s gone off her and she’s leaving. Garry orders her to wait there.
Tegs is holding court over the gang, and they initiate Jay into the gang. They tell him he has to do something first. They walk towards Dot’s.
Dot is inside with Georgie. She hears her gate and goes to the window to see the E20 gang all outside her window. She shuts the curtains quickly. Tegs tosses a brick to Jay and tells him to chuck it through her window.
Minty tells Garry that he’s past it and he’s pathetic. Garry tells Minty that Hazel loves him. Minty tells him that it’s what Garry’s wanted. Garry tells him not to put this on him. She loves him.
The E20 gang yells at Jay to throw the brick. Jay drops it, and Tegs asks him what he’s doing? Is he a coward? Jay tells him it’s not a laugh anymore. Jay goes to walk away, and Tegs yells at him that no one walks away from him. Jay asks him what he’s going to do about it? It’s time for him to pick on someone his own size and not frightened old ladies. Jay tells Tegs that there is one coward around here and it’s Tegs. The gang oohs, and Tegs is furious.
Ian is sitting with a facial mask on as Christian glams him up. Christian tells him you don’t have to be gay to have an effort. He asks Ian when was the last time he’d done anything romantic for Jane. Ian agrees to cook for Jane. Christian asks him for 200 quid to shop.
Zainab tears into Masood about being in the club with Shirley. She sends Shabnam out. After Shabs is gone, Zainab tells Mas to show her exactly what this stripper did as she smiles at him.
Heather tries to stop Hazel from leaving. Minty calls and says he wants to meet up with Hazel. First, he tries the arches, and Hazel agrees to the arches.
Ian comes into the cafe and is suspicious.
Ronnie comes into the club as Jack is cleaning. He tells Ronnie they’ll spend more time together. Ronnie says that is what he promised Penny. She tells him she met her. Ronnie says that he’s got his own kid just across town. Jack tells her she doesn’t know the half of it. Ronnie replies that is what Selena said.
Jane finds a bunch of sticky notes all over the cafe. She seems more panicked than anything.
Shirley runs into Zainab and mentions she forgot some photos at the post office earlier. Zainab says she found them. Shirley replies she hopes she wasn’t too hard on Masood. Zainab tells Shirley she was very, very strict with him. Zainab makes a whipping noise.
Jane runs into Ian and demands to know where Steven is. She knew it was just a matter of time and she’s going straight to the police once she wrings his neck. Ian stops her and tells her the notes are from him, not Steven. Jane is confused. Ian offers to buy her a rink.
Jack tells Ronnie about how Penny came to be paralyzed. He was after a drug dealer, and he took him down. Celebrated the fact that he’d gotten this man. Three months later Penny and Selena were at a bus stop when a man on Nelson’s orders plowed them down. He tells Ronnie that he and Selena stayed together at first, but he’d catch her watching him. He knows that if he’d just nicked Nelson and kept quiet and not rubbed his nose in it then maybe this wouldn’t have happened. But he couldn’t do it. Ronnie tells him Selena can’t blame him for this. She tells Jack she’s got Roxy in one ear and Phil in the other. She’s sorry she should have asked him. Jack tells her he hasn’t lived a perfect life and if she’s going to jump, then do it now. Ronnie tells him, no, and she won’t. Jack tells her he’s going to have a quiet night in as he’s tired. He doesn’t want Ronnie to come over.
Jay is playing soccer in the park when Tegs shows up. Tegs attacks him.
Dawn and Jase are in the Vic. Jase tells her he’s off and Dawn asks him to stay. He tells her he’s meant to meet Jay. She begs him to stay for one more as she needs cheering up. Jase agrees to one more.
Minty and Garry come into the Vic. Does Garry ask if he’s absolutely sure this is what he wants? Minty says he’s sure.
Ian tells Jane what the notes mean. She’s curious what Ian is up to.
Minty walks over to Hazel. She tells him it’s probably good they clear the air. He tells her he wants to win this silly competition as much as she does. Achy Breaky Heart starts playing. Minty and Garry take off their jackets and put on cowboy hats. They start line dancing, and the crowd cheers them on.
In the park, Tegs is punching Jay as Jay fights back.
Ian escorts Jane home to her surprise.
Back in the pub, Roxy notices Ronnie grabbing a vodka. The song ends, and Hazel jumps in Minty’s arms and declares her love.
Jay and Tegs continue, and Jay pulls his knife. Tegs says to Jay that he thinks he’s proper nails now? Jay tells him at least he doesn’t pick on old women. Jay asks him if he’d thrown the brick through the window the cops would have been all over them and for what? Tegs tells him it’s for the buzz innit? Tegs laughs, and Jay puts away his knife.
Dot hears her gate and wakes frightened.
Ian explains to Jane why he’s gone to the effort. He also tells her that Christian hasn’t gone, he’s looking after the kids. Ian declares his love for Jane and their ordinary Friday nights, even when they are watching Antiques Roadshow together. It’s who they are.
Jay asks Tegs if they are still mates when the other gang members show up. They ask Tegs who he’s with? Them or Jay? Tegs looks at them, walks up to Jay and stabs him. Jay falls to the ground. Tegs looks at him, puts on his coat, and walks away. Jay pulls his hand up with blood all over it.
