Jack rolls over in bed, and Ronnie walks in, looking at him. She pulls a piece of paper out of her robe pocket. It’s Selina’s address written out.
Jay is looking for something in the kitchen when he puts his hands on his knife. Jase and Dawn come in just after with Dawn discussing how this modeling call is making her feel like a woman again and not just a mum. She lays out all of Summer’s things and thanks to him for watching her. Jase protest but Dawn hugs him and says thanks. As soon as she’s out the door, Jay asks Jase what that smell is!
Christian and Bobby work out in the living room. Ian is bothered by the amount of flesh Christian ears when he’s working out. Ian asks Jane to say something to her brother, or he will. Ian leaves, and Christian comes into the dining room. Jane tells him to tone it down while working out. Christian wonders if Ian is all hot and bothered. Jane tells Christian that is not the problem. Ian has standards. Christian teases Jane that Ian has all the rules written down somewhere.
Ronnie runs into Roxy as she is walking Albert. Ronnie asks Roxy if they can talk? Roxy tells her she knows where Ronnie’s priorities lie after last night. Ronnie explains she felt like they needed a cooling down period after last night. Roxy asks her if she’s afraid of Auntie Peg. Ronnie scoffs and walks off.
Minty and Hazel walk off towards work. She invites him out to watch Gone with the Wind. He tells Hazel he can’t as he must meet Garry later.
The E20 gang come upon Jay sitting in the square. One of them grabs him around the neck and tells Jay to say he’s a muppet. Jay says it and the boy releases him and laughs with the others. Tegs comes up and says they think he’s alright. Jay says he’s the biz! Tegs says they are thinking of letting him join. Once he’s part of the crew no one can touch him. Tegs tells Jay to come find him later if he thinks of something fun to do.
Christian is mortified that he has to work in the cafe. Jane tells him it’s not that bad. She turns to read her book. Charlie is waiting to pay. Christian calls out to Jane, but she doesn’t hear him. He cries out, “earth to Jane.” Jane doesn’t listen to him, and Christian takes Charlie’s money. Jane has her nose in her book when Christian takes it away from her. He wonders what it is about. She tells him it’s about a girl who falls in love with an Italian Captain after being promised to a local fisherman. Ian comes in on a rant looking for some paperwork. Christian smirks. Jane tells Ian she’s not messed with his paperwork. He heads out, and Christian hums a military tune. Roxy comes in and spies Christian. Roxy wonders who he is and assumes he’s fair game.
Heather and Shirley are in the laundrette. Masood brings in the mail. Shirley asks him for her 30 quid back. Mas apologizes and says when his wife sinks her teeth into something, there is no stopping her. Shirley teases him and says that sounds painful. He says he must go as, unlike Father Christmas, he must deliver every day. Hazel comes in dejected. Heather wonders if they’ve lost the contest and Hazel tells her it’s nothing like that. Hazel tells her that Minty doesn’t want anything to do with her. Shirley says he’s seeing someone else then! Heather tells her not to pay attention to her.
Roxy and Ronnie are having coffee in the cafe discussing the events of Phil’s dinner. Ronnie admits it wasn’t one of her best decisions. Roxy tells Ronnie that Jack sat there, waiting for the right moment to attack Phil. Ronnie tells her she is jealous. Roxy tells her that is not the issue at all and she doesn’t realize she’s just a bit of skirt. A way to get at Phil and nothing more than a notch in Jack’s bedpost. Ronnie storms off as Roxy continues to yell she doesn’t even know who he is.
Dot comes into the laundrette, and Heather heads out as she has a crisis of the marital variety. Dot sends her on her way and comes out to find Jay there. Jay says he’s come to see her special. She wonders what he’s up to. Jay tells her he began to say he was sorry. He should have stuck up for her the other day in the cafe. Dot tells him that they aren’t very nice boys. Jay tells her that they bully him sometimes too. She tells him it’s better to stand up for yourself and stand out above those boys. She offers to make him tea, but he says he will make it. He takes her house keys from her coat and smiles.
Jack tells Ronnie she can’t expect him to get on with everyone. He says he is an ex-co and Phil is, and she interrupts him and says Phil is a Mitchell just like her. He says the same as Roxy and Peggy and they don’t have a problem with him. Ronnie tells him that Roxy is not a big fan and she reckons Ronnie doesn’t know anything about him at all. Jack asks her what she wants to know. She isn’t sure and asks him what his favorite color is. He says it’s blue. He wonders if she’s done and tells her they can play 20 questions when he’s done with his errands. Ronnie gets up and goes to his desk, snooping, and takes out an envelope showing tickets to the ballet.
Roxy and Christian are complaining about Jack and Ian. Roxy says her sister isn’t going out with Ian. He says lucky for her sister as his sister is married to him. She apologizes. She then tells Christian that his sister had an affair with her cousin Grant. He wonders what Grant is like and she tells him.
Heather runs into Garry, and he’s very suspicious and tells Heather she can’t see Minty right now as he’s busy. She wonders if everything is alright with the wedding. He wonders why it wouldn’t be? He sends Heather off.
Tegs is tagging a wall, and Jay comes up asking what they are doing. Tegs asks him what he’s doing. Jay says he’s not into standing out there freezing his monkeys off. He waves keys and says he has a better idea.
Jane tells Christian that Ian is taking the kids ice skating after school. She tells him that they can have a quiet night in with a bottle of wine and DVD. He smirks at her idea of a night out. She says his plan is probably to wear a t-shirt, two sizes too small and sniffing that stuff until your brain explodes. He tells her she is so 1980s. She says the older you get your idea of a night out changes. He blames Ian for her move of tune. She tells him Ian has loads of good qualities. He’s loyal, kind, family values. Christian doesn’t buy it and asks when was the last time she had fun. She tells him her, and the kids had a scrabble tournament last week. Christian tells her that tonight she is coming out with him.
Jack comes back and wants to pick up the twenty questions. Ronnie suggests they go out. He wonders when. She tells him next Friday. He says he can’t. She wonders if he has a better offer. He says sort of. It’s his daughters birthday, and he’s taking her to the ballet. She says that she thought it was this Friday. He tells her that it is but try as he might he couldn’t get the ballet to put on another performance. She says that he doesn’t talk about her much. She says that she understands that it must be painful. He details how when things went wrong with him and Selina, they agreed that for him to keep his distance. Ronnie suggests they go camping. He is happy she’d like to come with them. He tells her he knows he has been tough on her lately, and that is why he wants to give her his keys.
Tegs, Jay and the E20 gang are in Dot’s house and all of her things. Jay has her scarf over his head, pretending to be Dot. They start banging on the birdcage and let them out. They toss around a vase, and it breaks. Jay watches and is having second thoughts.
Roxy comes in and asks Christian out. He wonders where there is to go out to. He tells her he promised to take Jane out tonight. He agrees that he can share a drink with her as well so long as she doesn’t mind sharing. He wonders if she can get her sister to do him a favor. Masood and Zainab come in, and she is telling him that the stock room needs cleaning out. He’s complaining, and she tells him she’s asking for a little help. Shirley pipes up with a smart comment. Zainab tells her it’s not easy running your own shop and not everyone can sit in the cafe all day.
Heather is spying on Minty. Shirley comes out and scares her. Shirley tells her they are meeting at R&Rs later. Heather turns around, and Minty is gone.
Tegs catches Jay trying to save the birds and get them back in their cage. He demands to know what Jay is doing. Jay says they looked scared. Tegs disagrees, and one of the boys calls out that she’s coming. They scatter, and Jay goes back into the room to try to get the birds back in their cage. Charlie lets Dot in, and he asks if she is sure she doesn’t want him to come in with her. She says she’s probably left her keys on the table. She thanks Charlie and locks the door behind him. Jay hears her and hides. She calls out hello is anyone there. She sees her keys and then sees her birds. She tries to get the bird back in his cage. The bird flies out the window. She cries, please don’t go, it’s perishing out there. She whispers,, please don’t leave me. Jay stands up and makes himself known.
Roxy finds Ronnie packing up some of her things. Roxy wonders if she is moving out. Ronnie says it’s just for a few days. Roxy protest and Ronnie says she is not the one who deserves to sit here picking up the pieces. Roxy says she doesn’t want her getting hurt. Ronnie says it’s only for a few days. She invites Roxy down for a drink. Roxy says she’s already planning to come down and meet a bloke. Ronnie wonders if its a date. Roxy says sort of maybe she’s not sure. Roxy tells her she promised him the VIP lounge. .Ronnie scoffs, but Roxy pleads her case.
Dawn finally comes back and says they kept her waiting all bleeding day. She tells him she didn’t get the job. She tells Jase they said she was too old. She tells him she’s not giving up. She’s going back tomorrow as they are looking for babies.
Dot tells Jay they’d had Robin since it was a baby. Jim found the eggs cold but took that one and put it in the airing cupboard and one day it hatched. It was an ugly little thing. Jim says he doesn’t pray, but she saw him whispering to the bird to hold on and praying for him. Jay tells her he’s really sorry this time. Dot tells him it doesn’t matter as everything gets taken in the end.
Masood is finishing work and Shirley walks up behind him. He tells her he’s found her friends magazine. Shirley tries to convince him to meet her at the R&R. He turns her down and says he doesn’t drink and his wife doesn’t approve of clubs. Shirley says she ain’t inviting his wife. She finally gets him to come to meet Heather at 8:00 pm so she can thank him for finding the magazine.
Ronnie is walking into Jack’s flat, and the machine goes off. It’s Selena leaving a message telling Jack he’s really gone over the top this time. Does he really think his daughter wants to sit through the ballet with him? Ronnie picks up the phone.
Heather opens the door to the arches and gets a shocked look on her face.
Ian and the kids come home, and Jane tells him she and Christian are going out for a few hours. Ian is not happy.
Roxy softens towards Jack. Ronnie tells her that what she really wants is a large vodka, no ice. Jack walks over and says he’s happy to see Roxy there. He says he wins them over with his Jack Branning Charm. Jane and Christian come in, and she’s unsure of being there. He tells her to lighten up. Heather, Minty, and Garry are there, and they’ve promised to keep her in fruity umbrella drinks. Outside Shirley is handing out tickets to Shabnam for tonight’s special event. Masood walks up. Shirley tells him that Heather wouldn’t wait and has gone in already. He asks if that was just Shabnam going in. Shirley says, “was it?” and hands him the ticket for the night’s special event. He goes running in after Shabnam.
Inside Jane and Christian discuss whether she really loves Ian. She declares that she does. Shabs hides from her dad, and Shirley convinces him to get him a drink. Christian says to Jane, “no matter what you say, you’re still looking for your officer!” The theme song from an Officer and Gentleman comes on, and a man in uniform comes in and sweeps Jane off her feet. He then starts to strip for her. The crowd goes wild, and Roxy begrudgingly realizes Christian is gay. The stripper is one of his ex’s. Jane is enjoying every moment of it and smacks the bottom of the stripper. The stripper is having a right good time with her when Ian walks in and sees it all. Ian leaves.
Ronnie has snuck out of the club and knocks on Selena’s door.
At the club, Jane rushes after Ian and Christian to attempts to stop her. Shirley cons Masood into taking a photo with the stripper, Heather and he’s wearing the strippers cap.
Jane tells Christian that she loves Ian. Christian tells her that he thought she was going to get out and do something. She was the first to escape, and he finds her married to Mr. Bean. He wants to know what happened. She says I’ll tell you what happened? I became a widow at 33. I had nothing and no idea what was going to happen. Ian was there to pick up the pieces and help her through it. He wonders about Grant. She stops in her tracks. She tells him that yes Grant was exciting and like too many shots of tequila. But Ian. Ian would lay down his life for her. How many people do you get to say that about?
Selena and Ronnie are talking about Jack and his daughter. Selena realizes that Jack hasn’t told her.
Jane and Christian come in and find Ian with Christians bag. Jane tells him they were just having a laugh. He tells them he wants him out.
Penny comes rolling out in her wheelchair. Selena tells Ronnie if she wants to know why Jack can’t see his daughter ask him how his daughter got paralyzed from the chest down.
