August 4, 2018 Episode 2 (UK Original January 7, 2008)

Abi is making lunches for her and Lauren. Lauren puts her elbow on Dr. Who cards, and Abi scolds her and tells her to be careful, so she doesn’t ruin them. Abi gathers them up and puts them in her jacket pocket. Lauren says she wishes this was a tardis so that it could get them away from there. Abi asks her if she should wake mum up. Lauren asks her what for?
Tanya walks out of Dots and sees Sean. He begs her to let him explain or to hit him, shout at him, just do something. Tanya ignores him and hurries into the house. She is nearly in tears. She hears the girls in the kitchen and gets herself together and goes in. The girls are bickering. Tanya tells Lauren she’s told Dot that Lauren will pick up Oscar on her way back from school. Tanya asks her if she minds. Lauren tells her, “what would it matter if I did?” Tanya asks them if they want toast and opens the bread bin, but it’s empty. Cereal is then, Tanya says. Except there is no cereal either.
Heather lets Vince in with flowers for Shirley. Heather tells him she will give them to her. He tells her that he will wait. Heather wonders if he has to be somewhere. He asks her where he would have to be? Shirley comes in, and he gives her the big bouquet of Lillies. She takes them and tosses them on the table declaring “how nice! Funeral flowers!” Vince immediately apologizes and says he didn’t know. His phone rings as Shirley is looking for her fags. Heather wonders if he is going to answer it. He tells her he has to go, but he’ll be back later. Shirley asks Heather to put the flowers in water. Heather is about to tell Shirley her suspicions but stops.
Ben wonders why Abi didn’t bring back his Dr. Who cards. She tells Ben she had other things on her mind. He apologizes and asks if he can pick them up at lunchtime.
Peggy knocks on Phil’s door and asks if he’s up. She looks at Ronnie with worry. Phil is downstairs in the barrel room tossing barrels. He pulls out Louise’s photo and looks at it.
Jack nurses his black eye. Max can’t believe Jack got caught up in it. Jack brushes it off as no big deal.
Tanya is loading the washer and grabs Abi’s jacket with the Dr. Who cards in them. She tosses it in. She starts the washer, but it won’t work. She takes it all out.
Ian is whinging about the noise above his head the night before. Steven apologizes and says that was him as he tripped over Peter’s trainers. Jane complains that it landed Bobby in their bed. She tells Ian that the loft is not big enough for those boys. Ian tells Lucy that Bobby is moving in with her. Lucy is not happy. Steven apologizes. Ian is off to the cash and carry and Jane protest. Steven volunteers to help out, and Ian calls it a problem solved.
Ronnie meets Jack in the square and takes stock of his face. He tells her he wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of Phil if this is what it is like. He tells Ronnie he likes the naked look as she’s not wearing any makeup. She smiles at him.
Steven asks Jane if she would rather him cook or serve? Jane decides he can cook if he likes. Steven says he’d rather serve. Jane wonders why he asked if he knew what he wanted to do.
Vince is on his phone chatting and laughing when Heather spies him.
Keith comes into the cafe. He finds Darren sitting there. Keith wonders why he left. He was talking to him and all the sudden he was gone. Keith notices the doughnuts. Darren tells him he’s on auto-pilot as he always got them for Kevin. Keith has picked up the custard-filled doughnut that was Kevin’s favorite. As soon as Darren mentions this, Keith puts the doughnut back. Keith tells Darren maybe he shouldn’t go into work. Darren tells him he has to show up. Keith tells him it’s a lot of weight on his shoulders. Keith offers to help him, but Darren scoffs at the idea. Keith tries to comfort Darren talking about how close that Kevin and Darren were. Darren walks out.
Tanya heads to the laundrette with the clothes when Sean follows her. He tells her that he didn’t tell her because Stacey promised him that it was finished long before the wedding. Tanya tells him she knows all he cared about was protecting his sister. Sean tries to explain to her that he didn’t want to hurt her. Tanya tells him she doesn’t care. All she cares about now is her kids. Not him, not Max or any of Max’s tarts they are all nothing. Sean tells her that she knows how he feels about her. She tells him she doesn’t care. He tries to make her see, and Tanya softens a bit before telling him he was nothing more than a warm body there when she needed it. She tells Sean that she is fine now. Tanya says, “thank you, goodbye.” Heather comes in and asks Tanya if she can manage by herself. Tanya tells her she can. Stacey sees Sean and calls out to him. He ignores her.
Sean walks into the cafe and demands tea. Jane asks him no please or thank you? Sean tells Jane no just tea. Steven tries to step in and tell Sean not to talk to Jane like that. Sean tells him he is not in the mood. Jane tells Steven she doesn’t need protecting. Stacey comes in and tells Sean he’s better off without her. Sean tells her that he didn’t, and he’s not. He blasts her for telling Tanya he knew. He tells Stacey that the one thing that really mattered to him was taken from him. He could have completely dropped her in it by telling what he knew on the day of the wedding, at the Vic, at the church but he didn’t because he was thinking of Stacey and Tanya. Stacey tells him she didn’t realize and she’s sorry, but Sean is not having it. He walks out.
Ronnie is getting ready; a baby cries in the background. Ronnie tells Phil she saw Jack earlier and he’s wondering why he was hit. Phil tells her to stay out of it. Ronnie asks if he’s going to hit her too? She might not be so restrained like Jack. Ronnie tells him she doesn’t understand as he found Louise. Phil tells her he wishes he hadn’t. Ronnie is confused. Phil tells her to leave it.
Heather comes in and sits down at the Vic. Shirley asks what she’s having, and Heather says nothing. Shirley tells Heather then she could buy her one then. Heather asks Shirley what she knows about Vinnie. Shirley tells her that he’s loaded, has great taste in earrings. Heather wonders if Shirley likes him and if she sees a future with him. Shirley wonders what she’s getting at. Shirley asks her again. Heather tells her that she thinks he might be married.
Phil tells Ronnie he got used to the idea of never seeing Louise again and then Jack comes along and dangles the idea of seeing her again in front of him. Ronnie says he didn’t. Phil says he told him not to go yet, to wait but he couldn’t. What father could? Ronnie asks Phil what he did? Phil says he just sat there outside at the school. He wasn’t even sure he would recognize her, but he did. Peggy comes in and asks if he really saw her? Phil says he saw her and spoke to her. Peggy wonders why she isn’t there with them? Phil tells them about the bloke she called Daddy. Peggy wonders why he didn’t tell her he was her dad. Phil reminds Peggy that Louise was just a baby when Lisa left. Louise wouldn’t know him from Adam. Peggy says, “so you just walked away?” Phil says, “what was I supposed to do? I was just a big scary man to her!” Peggy is upset, and Phil walks out. Ronnie tells her to leave him and goes after him.
Tanya is losing clients, and she wonders why the agency hasn’t sent anyone. Hazel tells her that they are short-staffed and trying, but they are prioritizing. Tanya says they’ll just have to make the best of it. Hazel tells Tanya she thinks she is amazing what with all she’s going through. Tanya tells her to thank you and gets a start on the client she has waiting.
Ronnie follows Phil down the stairs telling him that he saw Louise, didn’t he? Jack was not to blame. He found her, didn’t he? Phil isn’t sure he was trying to help in the least. Ronnie tells him if he wants to shoot the messenger then shoot the cop Phil tells her that he knew exactly what was going to happen when he found Lisa with this new bloke. He tells her Jack had to have known and he set him up to watch it all and watch Phil fall after he discovered it.
Darren is sitting at Kevin’s desk, organizing it all, and he opens a drawer and pulls out the big ball of rubber bands.
Ronnie is complaining to Roxy about how paranoid Phil sounded. She wonders why he thinks Jack would do that. Roxy wonders whose side she is on as Jack is driving a wedge between the family and if she can’t see it, then she’s delusional. Ronnie tells her she’s an idiot. Roxy tells her it’s better than being deluded.
Shirley’s phone rings, it’s Vince, but she ignores it. Sean is drinking heavily and makes a snide comment about Chelsea’s ankle bracelet. Shirley comes up to him and tells Sean if he’s looking for a fight she’s in the mood to pick on. Shirley buys Chelsea a drink.
Tanya hurries to get to the next client. Max comes in with a mobile for Oscar. He wonders where Oscar is? She tells him he’s at Dots. Max tells her that she’s dumping him and if she needs help, he can. She tells him she’s not dumping him and she has to work. He tells her if she can’t cope, he’s there. She tells him again she’s not dumping him. Max tells her he’s going round to drop off the mobile at Dot’s. Tanya’s client leaves, and Max tells her she’s losing it. Tanya tells him to get out. He says he’s going to Dot’s and she tells him he is not. He tosses the mobile down. She tells Hazel she’s closing up for the day.
Shirley calls Vinnie back. She tells him she didn’t hear the previous call. She says she’s looking forward to seeing him. Yolande is scolding Chelsea for not unpacking. Chelsea wonders if there is anything else? Yolande tells her that she hopes she won’t play her music so loud. Besides she’s going to need her rest when she is job hunting. Chelsea scoffs. Yolande tells her to be home by 7:00 pm as she has a curfew.
Jane and Ian come into the Vic. Jane is worried its too soon leaving Steven on his own. He says they should make it permanent. Steven can join Team Bealle!
Tanya is walking home, and Stacey calls out to her. Tanya asks when she gave her permission to talk to her! Stacey tries to get Tanya to understand she didn’t realize how much Sean liked her. Tanya says he’s a Slater she should have known what to expect. Stacey comes at Tanya telling her she should be grateful for what she can get. Tanya insults her by saying Stacey tried to be her once, and that didn’t work out for her.
Tanya comes in, and Ben and Abi are looking for his cards. Abi asks her mum and says it was in her pink jacket. Tanya pulls it out from the bag and Ben finds his cards ruined. He’s upset and leaves. Tanya says she should have taken them out and Abi snaps that she should have checked! Abi declares she’s going to Grandma’s after school with Lauren as it’s much better there. Abi slams the door.
Darren is sitting on the bench, looking at the rubber band ball. Keith asks what he’s doing sitting there; he’s missing out on a sale. Darren tells him everywhere he looks, he sees his stuff. He is not Kevin. Keith tries to comfort him, but Darren walks off and tosses the ball in the bin. Keith notices.
Vince arrives at Shirley’s. She opens the door and takes the wine and slams the door on him. He yells through the mail opening that Hayley is not his wife. Shirley tells him she doesn’t care. He finally yells that she is his daughter, not his wife, you stupid tart. Shirley opens the door and asks him who he’s calling stupid.
Peggy and Roxy are looking at the clothes she’s bought for Louise. Roxy suggests maybe she can give them to Janet. Peggy breaks down in tears and says she has never stopped thinking about her and always thought she would come back. Ronnie watches it all.
Tanya is drinking red wine and accidentally dumps it on the clean clothes.
Jack finds Ronnie in the club. He says he didn’t expect to see her because of the Mitchells circling the wagons. Ronnie tells Jack that Phil was in pieces, and so was Auntie Peg. Ronnie tells him that Phil thinks he set him up on purpose and knew there was a stepdad? Jack says he did his bit and if Phil can’t handle it that is not his problem. Ronnie tells him that is not an answer. She wonders if it’s like point scoring for them. A tit for tat? Big boy war games? She tells him she doesn’t care what he and Phil do, but there is a six-year-old little girl in the middle of this. She tells him he’s on his own as she’s taking a break. He wonders if it’s from the club or from him too. She tells him he’s the cop, figure it out.
Tanya comes into the pub and walks to go up to the private residence. Roxy stops her and wonders what she wants. Tanya tells her she wants Ben. Roxy tells Tanya she can’t as he’s having his tea. Tanya says, right. Can I have a glass of red wine while I wait?
Vince thanks Heather for throwing him in it. Shirley tells him that she was only looking out for him. Heather offers to get them fish and chips. Shirley sends her off. She asks Vinnie why he wouldn’t tell her. He says that he didn’t think she would want his baggage. They hear Heather scream for help. They go down, and the man Heather is holding knows Vince. He loaned him is car a week prior. Shirley is not amused.
Tanya is completely drunk. She is on the phone with Dot and thanks to her for feeding the girls. Tanya yells up to Ben to get a move on. Roxy tells her no. Roxy wonders what this is all about. Tanya tries to explain that she ruined Ben’s Dr. Who whatchamacallits. Peggy comes down and wonders what all the screaming is about. Tanya tries to tell her and puts two quid down on the counter to buy Ben some new cards. Peggy laughs at that and Tanya tells her she has more money and falls over. Keith helps her up, and Tanya says she doesn’t have her sea legs on. Peggy and Roxy give her some advice to go home and take care of those kids. She tells them they are at Dot’s.
Vince pleads with Shirley to hear him out. She tells him he’s a loser.
Tanya is walking home, and Rainey meets her at the steps telling her she’s been hanging out all day waiting on her. She didn’t know if she would want to see her. Tanya burst into tears. Rainey tells her it’s alright. She’s there now.
