July 21, 2019 Episode 2 (Original UK Air Date Jan 2, 2008)

Chelsea and Libby are laying on the sofa. Carly comes in and walks out. She walks into the kitchen. Pat asks her if Denise is asleep. Carly answers that she is and the pills seem to be working. Pat says Denise needs her rest. Carly tells Pat that Denise needs to be unconscious. Carly tells her that she feels like she should be doing something. Pat tells her there will be plenty of time for that. Carly says she feels like she should be doing something for the funeral. Pat tells her that there will be plenty of time for that tomorrow. Carly gets up to leave. Pat asks her where she is going. Carly says she needs to get out, walk around, and clear her head. Pat tells her there is something that she can do. Someone needs to inform Dean.
Tanya is brushing her hair in front of the mirror when Oscar starts to cry. Abi calls out for Tanya that Oscar wants her. Tanya looks in the mirror and says “wants” and frowns.
Ian tells Jane he feels like he should cook something for them. Jane agrees. Ian says that New Years will never be the same for them. He reminds Jane they were supposed to be moving into the house today. Jane tells him they’ll hardly be thinking of that today. Ian remarks that they should do it later in the week. Less to pack, he says. In the front room, the kids argue over the television channel. She settles the dispute by putting on a cartoon for Bobby. She walks back into the kitchen and hands the remote to Ian and tells him she’s off to the cafe.
Tanya asks if the girls would like a pajama day. Abi wonders what it is. Tanya tells them they don’t have to get dressed, no one tells them what to eat or what to do. Abi asks if Tanya is not going out? Tanya tells her no she’s staying home.
The police arrive asking for Denise. Yolande says Denise is asleep and she might be able to help. Pat steps in to answer the question.
Bradley is flipping through his CDs and movies. Dot wonders if he is alright. She says at a time like this you want to talk and there is only one person you want to talk to, and you can’t speak to that person. Bradley says, “I said I’m alright!” Dot continues with “and get angry, but if you want to talk, I’m here and to put it behind him.” Bradley changes the subject.
The police tell Pat that they couldn’t find any record of the previous owner of the car. Pat wonders if they are implying the vehicle was stolen. They say they aren’t sure, but it looks like it. Pat tells them she doesn’t know why Kevin was driving that car. They ask if he was into selling stolen motors. Pat tells them he wasn’t like that. She tells them she doesn’t know why, but he wasn’t up to anything.
The police go to leave when Yolande comes down the stairs. They ask who she is and Pat explains she’s family helping out. Pat tells Yolande she’s sorry about the money she’s lost. Yolande says she hadn’t really thought about it. Denise was sorting out the loan at the post office. She tells Pat she just gave a deposit of $500 pounds in cash. Pat is relieved, but Yolande doesn’t understand why she would even think about it at a time like this. The doorbell rings, and it’s Darren. Darren comes to ask Libby if she’d like to go get some fresh air. They head out to try her new skates.
Tanya arrives at Dots with the kids. She sees Bradley and asks him how he is doing. He tells her, ok. Dot tells Tanya to go take care of the salon, and they will be alright. Tanya tells Dot that Max is not to see the kids. Dot tells her she understands. Tanya tells Dot she is a Godsend. Dot says she tries to be.
Tanya heads off to the salon and Sean chases after her. She tells him not now she has to get to the salon. He tells her that he doesn’t want to leave things the way they left them last night. She tells him he picks his moments, doesn’t he? He wonders why the rush to get to the salon. She tells him she’s been broken into. Stacey observes their conversation.
Stacey and Steven discuss their drinking the night before. Bradley says he’s glad to see someone is having fun. Stacey tells him that she’s letting her hair down as it’s the new year remember. He tells her it’s not like anything to get in her way of having fun does she? She asks him what he did. He says he had a bit of dignity.
Phil is standing outside of the car lot. He walks around it and looks up at the sign.

Steven comes in and sees everyone sitting around the table. He says that was some night last night. He asks them what’s wrong? They look like someone died.
Pat comes to see Shirley. She gets Shirley to tell her about what Kevin was doing. Shirley tells her that they were cut and shuts. Pat wonders why he was selling them. Shirley tells her he didn’t know and when he found out Denise had gone and sold the car to Yolande. So Pat puts together the plan to get rid of the car and declares it the stupidest plan.
Darren and Libby are lacing up in the park. He wonders how fast she can skate. She takes his dare.
Carly goes to the station and then runs out. Shirley sees her and follows her to the car lot.
Libby skates fast, and Darren catches her. They embrace, and he tells her it’s going to be ok.
Carly is sitting at Kevin’s desk and smells his cologne. She puts some behind her ears. Shirley and Carly talk about Dean. She doesn’t know how to tell Dean that his Dad is dead. Shirley is shocked to find out he doesn’t know yet. Carly cries and wonders why did he have to die? Carly leaves to tell him. Shirley asks to go with her, but Carly doesn’t want her to. Shirley tells her that he’s her boy too. Carly agrees to her coming.
Bradley is in the pub drinking. Max walks up and asks him if he is going at it a bit hard. Max wonders if it is vodka. Bradley is wondering what is he going to do? Give him a lecture on the evils of drinking? Max sits down and tells him he’d give anything to turn back time. Bradley asks him what would he give? A finger? He tells him that he’s already given him the finger. What then? An arm? How about that? That would about do the job. Max tells him not to be stupid. Bradley tells him to go away. Max stops, and Bradley looks at him and says, “you must hate me so much to do what you did to me.” Max says, “No Bradley ” Bradley tells him he’d have to for what he did.
Pretti is trying to clean off the spray paint when Tanya walks back in. Preeti asks if the police are gone. She tells them, yes but they didn’t find any sign of a break-in — Tanya wonders which one of them forgot to lock up. Preeti confesses to not doing as she was busy thinking about the party and what to wear. Tanya sacks Preeti. Hazel tells her that wasn’t nice. Tanya tells her if she doesn’t like it then she can go. Hazel tells her that she knows things are hard for her right now, but she doesn’t have to take it out on them. It’s not nice. Tanya looks around and cries.
Dot is on the phone with Carol. She tells her to tell Jim that she will be there tomorrow. She assures Carol that everything is fine. Max shows up at Dot’s to talk about Bradley. Dot lets him in but doesn’t let on that the girls are there.
Steven comes into the cafe. Jane goes to toss him, but he begs her to please let him stay and have a cup of tea. He can’t go back to the house with everything going on. Jane asks him if it’s bad in there. He tells her everyone is just sitting about trying to figure out whats just hit them. She gives him a cup. He explains that they say time heals, but he knows it doesn’t.
Max confesses to Dot that he wishes he hadn’t hurt everyone. Dot tells him, “all these people why Bradley and Stacey?” All these lives you’ve destroyed. Max tells her that they are his family, and they mean everything to him. He loves them. He says he swears to God that he will make it right. She tells him that if he says that and doesn’t mean it, he will go to hell. Max tells Dot that he is already there. The girls come in and find him. Dot tells him he better go. The girls beg him to stay. Max asks her. Abi begs please of Dot.
Tanya is scrubbing the salon, and Sean comes in. He tells her that people pay big money to have designers come in and do this. Tanya says, “yeah, cutting edge, that’s me.” Sean apologizes for earlier as he wasn’t thinking. Tanya says she wasn’t either. She says she has to pick up the kids, feed Oscar, clean up. He tells her to give him the keys, and he’ll see what he can get done.
Libby and Darren are walking and talking. She reminds him of something he said earlier about wishing he could have done something. Libby tells him he couldn’t have done anything to change this. She kisses him and thanks to him for the day out. Darren sees Phil walking back into the pub.
Pat says, “Seven stages.” Jane wonders what she means. Pat tells her she read somewhere there are seven stages of grief. She says right now it feels like seventy=seven. Jane tells Pat that Denise is strong and she’ll get through it. Pat tells her that it is all so senseless and so sudden and something so impossible. She says that it pulls you together as a family. But I’ve seen it tear families apart too. Pat says that on top of it, there is more anger and pain. Jane asks her how she is doing. Pat says, “he wasn’t just family, he was my friend.” as she begins to cry.

Tanya goes to pick up the kids and asks Dot if the kids are ready yet. She wonders if she’s fed them because she has plenty in the fridge. Max says, “Tan.” Tanya looks at Dot and says, “I told you!” Dot tries to tell her she was going to stop him, but Tanya just tells her thanks. She asks to speak to Max. He tells her he didn’t know they were there. She tells him he can’t see them anytime he wants. When she is done with him, he’ll be lucky if the courts let him see them once a year. Max says that is great, get the courts involved. He tells them he’ll just have to draw their attention to what an unfit mother she is. She puts her career ahead of her kids. Abi nearly suffered a broken bone. She endangered their unborn child. She tries to argue with him, but he tells her that he’s got loads more.
Jane comes home and calls out to Ian. She walks in, and he has a romantic dinner set up for them. She asks him what this is and he tells her that it’s an apology. She asks for what? He tells her that what happened to Kevin reminded him that he takes advantage and doesn’t pay attention to her enough. So the kids are going to take theirs upstairs, and this is for them. Jane gets up and says this isn’t right.
Carly asks Shirley if she thinks Dean will be ok. Shirley says, “he didn’t say anything, did he? He just sat there and stared.” Carly asks her what she expected? A song and dance? Carly apologizes. Shirley tells her they will get through it. Carly laughs and says what? Shirley tells her she’s here for them. Carly says what? Me and Dean have been through a lot without you, and we’ll get through this without you. She looks at Shirley and tells her she wishes it had been her. Shirley is pained.
Tanya sends the girls to bed. Sean rings the bell, and she answers the door. He has her keys for her. She wonders if he did it and he lets her know he has, sort of. She calls him her hero. He tells her he’ll see her tomorrow. She asks him to stay and have a drink for her.
Dot calls out when she hears Bradley come in. He’s very drunk. He tells her that he wants to tell her how wonderful she is. She has enough to worry about with Granddad. He tells her she doesn’t have to worry about him. He runs off to the bathroom and gets sick. Dot picks up the phone and calls Rachel and tells her that Bradley needs her.
They have a drink, and she talks about all those that have let her down. She says all she wants is someone to rely on. She just wants someone to rely on. It’s not too much to ask, is it? She has second thoughts and tells him it’s time he went. She asks him if he has a thing for older women who’s bits hang down. She understands why Max couldn’t wait to trade her in. She’s beginning to think it’s her fault. She says she just wants someone to hold her. He kisses her, but she tells him she can’t. He reminds her he’s not going anywhere and pulls her into him.
