Shirley comes to finding Kevin awake. Shirley says, “Look at you, not a mark on you. and you call yourself an unlucky man.” He draws her attention to his wounds.
Ronnie comes into the club, and Jack wonders where she’s been. He tells her he has mates there he’d like to talk to, but he’s been behind the bar serving. She tells him to give her two minutes.
Shirley gets out of the car. Kevin asks her where she is going. She tells him she’s going to get help. She dumps her purse out but remembers Kevin smashed her phone. She asks Kevin where his phone is. He tells her he’s done for. His phone is in his right pocket. She gets his phone out. She calls for an ambulance. She tells Kevin she’s going to go to the corner to wait for them. He begs her not to go as he doesn’t want to go on his own. He begs her to please do what he asks for once. He tells her he’s scared.
Sean and Tanya are drinking, and he’s feeling drunk. Tanya wants to keep drinking and pours some aged whiskey.
Shirley keeps talking to Kevin and tries to get him to speak to her. He tells her he can’t feel his fingers. He tells her he doesn’t want to go in the car park. He tells her it’s bright out. He wonders if the sun is out. She tells him it’s the lamps. He tells her that he didn’t want to die in a car park. She tells him to tell her where it is that he wants to go and she’ll take him there and kill him herself. He tells her he feels warm. She tells him he’s going to be 90 with his girl and that’s his time, it’s not now! She begs him to stay there with her. He asks Shirley to give Denise a kiss for him. She tells him he was always a good kisser. He tells her that kiss was for Denise, not her. He tells her that he can feel the air around him now, and everything is clear. He tells her he wants to kiss her too. She tells him he’s not thinking straight. He kisses her, and she cries, “why did you give me that?” He tells her it’s from Jimbo and he swore he’d never give it to her. He grimaces in pain. Shirley yells at him, and he looks at her. He says, “she’s my mum, he says, she’s my lovely mum.” He tells Shirley she’s up, he’s done the first 20 years, and now it’s all up to her. Shirley begs him not to die, but Kevin doesn’t open his eyes.
The Vic is filled with party-goers celebrating. Kevin’s pint is there waiting for him.
A phone rings at the house and Chelsea hears it but doesn’t answer. She grabs her jacket.
Jase is at the pub with Jay. Jay tells his dad his legs feel all funny. Jase says there is nothing in his drink. Roxy walks up and gives Jase a look. He says that’s the look that he’s done something wrong. Roxy has a go at Jase for no plan, no call, no romance on New Year’s Eve. She tells him he’s on thin ice. He calls after her. Jay tries to school him on his mistakes.
Chelsea comes in, and they are excited to see her. Patrick gets her a drink.
Vince wonders where Shirley’s got off to. Heather is still broody, and Vince asks her what is wrong. She tells him she knows and she’s watching him.
Max shows up at Tanya’s and calls out to her. Sean starts to get up and stop him, but Tanya tells him he doesn’t have a key anymore and he’ll go away. She wonders if he wants some crisp. Sean opens the door and tells Max to go away. Max asks Tanya if this is her new bodyguard. Max pushes his way in and makes a remark about Tanya and Sean. Sean asks him when he became the moral majority. Tanya has her coat on. Sean asks her what she’s doing. She looks at Max and tells him if he wants to spend the evening with her son she’s going. Max screams at Sean, “well, what are you waiting for? GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!” Tanya is walking toward the pub.
Shirley walks around the corner and sees the police arrive at Pat’s. She walks into the pub. Heather calls after her. Shirley orders a large vodka. Heather tries to get Vince to tell her. Heather tries to find out what’s wrong. Shirley sends them away. Phil wonders what is wrong. Shirley sees Denise and Phil seems to get worried. Denise yells at her “hey faceache have you seen Kevin? He was supposed to be back in half an hour.” Shirley asks her if she can have a word. Denise tells her no. Shirley asks again. Denise tells everyone not to let anyone take that seat as it is for Kevin.
Denise and Shirley go into the stairway. Shirley tells Denise to go home as there are people looking for her. Denise says, “people?” Shirley tells her it’s the police. Denise wonders if it is about Chelsea. Shirley says it’s about Kevin. Denise wonders if he’s gone and gotten himself knicked. Because if he has, she is going to have to go and snog someone else. Shirley tells her that Kevin is gone. Denise says, “gone? what do you mean gone?” Shirley tells her again that she is sorry, but Kevin has died. Denise tells her that if this is a joke. Denise doesn’t want to believe it. Shirley asks her if she has her phone. Denise says she does it’s in her purse. She looks and discovers it’s not there. Denise says, “he was just here.” Phil overhears and asks Shirley if he just heard right. She starts to cry and says yes.
Denise makes her way across the square, and there is no one there. She opens the door and goes in. She turns lights on and walks back to the kitchen. She finds her phone, and it starts to ring. She picks it up to see 12 missed calls. She throws it down in fear and disbelief.
Roxy comes into a romantic setting at Jase’s. She turns the lights on and says she’s happy he came to his senses. She finds Jay there instead. He tells her he’s glad she finds everything to her liking and to park her backside down over there. She asks him where his dad is, and Jay tells her that he is at work. He tells her that he has to pay the rent and he doesn’t live a juice free life as she does. She heads out angry. Jay asks if she is leaving so soon? He had a swiss roll with her name on it.
The club is pumping with dancing and drinking. Carly notices Shabs is not into it. Shabs says she might go home. Dawn says this is her mum’s influence. Garry brings Dawn a drink. She wonders if Garry could go stand somewhere else as there is a guy giving her the eyes and she doesn’t want him to get the wrong idea.
Jacks goes to his flat to get the night bag. He finds the evidence of Ronnie having been there.
Shirley’s bell rings, and she answers finally. She tells them to go away. Denise lets her know it’s her. She buzzes her up. Denise tells her that the police told her. She wonders why she was in the car with him. Shirley tells her that he asked her to go with him. Denise wonders if there was something going on. Shirley asks her, “between us?NO” Denise tells her no, was he up to something dodgy? Shirley tells her that they just went to get the window fixed. Denise wonders why he wouldn’t just put a piece of cardboard over it. Shirley tells her that it is new years eve and it might have been vandalized.
Denise asks Shirley what happened. Shirley asks if they told her. Denise tells her she’s asking her. Shirley tells her she doesn’t want to. Denise tells her that she doesn’t really want to be a widow, but she is. Shirley tells her that they were driving along and the bonnet flew up and they wrecked. Denise wonders how the bonnet just flew up. Shirley tells her maybe it was not shut properly. Denise wonders if he was in pain. Shirley tells her he was in shock and probably didn’t feel much. Denise wonders if he said anything. Shirley tells her that he said that he didn’t want to go to a car park. He wanted it to be with Denise with her hand on his face. Denise asks her how he looked. She asks Shirley if he did anything else. Shirley tells her that he kissed her to give to Denise. Shirley orders her to have a drink. Denise wonders if she’s told, Carly. Shirley says she hasn’t. Denise says she’ll wait till she comes in. She’ll wait till they all come in. Shirley asks if she can be there too.
Roxy is at the club flirting. Garry is holding a drunk Carly. Garry tells her that they should make a deal that if neither of them has anyone at midnight, they should kiss. Carly walks off. Roxy sees Jase and asks him if he’s come to apologize. She tells him it’s too late as she’s got someone new. Dawn comes over and grabs the guy and says she was talking to him first.
Tanya comes home with the girls and sends them up to get their jimjams on so they can watch movies. She walks into the front room and tells Max, “bye.” He tells her he wants to talk to her about Sean. She tells him to get out.
Everyone is in the front room as Carly comes in. Carly wonders what they are all just sitting there for. Pat, Shirley, Libby, Chelsea, and Carly listen as Denise tells them that a few hours ago Kevin had an accident. The ambulance got to him as quickly as possible. They tried everything they could, but he died. Libby is in shock and says she doesn’t believe it. Carly says he’s not dead, it’s not true. Carly cries out that she wants to see him. She wants to see her dad. Pat tells her he’s at the hospital. Carly cries, “I want to see my dad.” Everyone cries that deep from the gut cry.
Jack tells Ronnie he knows why she was late now. He pours her a glass of champagne. Tells her would they have talked until they were too close and he could smell the perfume on her. He kisses her and Garry burst in telling them there is a fight. They go out to find Roxy and Dawn fighting.
Carly, Pat, Denise, and Shirley are at the hospital. Carly gets up to go in. Shirley asks if she can go with her. Shirley ends up going in with her. Carly screams out DAD!
Roxy and Ronnie are in bed. Roxy asks if she’s screwed it all up for her? Ronnie tells her no, and she’s got someone in mind already.
They come out to get Denise. She tells Kevin to wake up. She begs him to please wake up. She tells him that he said he was going to be there to kiss her at midnight. Giving one to Shirley to pass on to her, that doesn’t count. She says she doesn’t know what she’s going to do as she cries. She tells him it’s supposed to be you and me. She asks him if he remembers what he said when they got married. When they are 88, and he’s half deaf from all her nagging, and he’d still be eyeing her up. She tells him she’s never told him what he meant to her. She says, “I love you. You’ve got a funny face. You smell nice. You make me laugh. When it was just me the days of well, they felt like days you have just to get through. But when we got together, they went quicker.”
Peggy rings the bell at the pub and declares, “Happy New Year!” The bells ring. Phil walks out to the hall. Minty and Hazel kiss as he holds Summer. Dawn makes out with a stranger. Sean comes to Tanyas and says she disappeared before he could give her a midnight kiss. Max sits on the bench. Jack reads a text from Ronnie. Ronnie tells Roxy 2008 is going to be the best year yet. Denise kisses Kevin and tells him, “Happy New year, my darling.”
