Tanya is laying at the bottom of the stairs with her head bleeding. The girls are screaming, and Max runs down. Max orders Lauren to call an ambulance. Lauren calls, and Max tries to care for Tanya.
Stacey and Bradley are in their flat. She offers him the truth. He is not sure he can stomach it. He’s also not sure she can tell the truth. She promises to tell him every bit.
Tanya tells Lauren she is alright and doesn’t need an ambulance. Max tells Tanya she isn’t thinking straight. Tanya looks him in the eye and tells him she’s, she is thinking straight for the first time in her life. She comforts the girls. Max follows Tanya into the front room. Tanya pours herself a whiskey. She picks up the card from Abi and cries. Max tries to comfort her, and she tells him to go away. Tanya tells Max he should explain to the girls how Christmas turned into Hiroshima. The baby begins to cry, and Max makes a move to go to him. She tells him to leave him. Lauren comes in and tells Tanya she has blood on her face. Tanya tells Lauren she is ok. She says she’s going to get Oscar and they should say their goodbyes.
Stacey tells Bradley she doesn’t love Max. She tells him that she loves him. Bradley says it didn’t look like that. She tells him it was over ages ago before they got back together. He was saying goodbye, and that kiss didn’t mean anything. Bradley doesn’t understand how she could look him in the eye at the alter. He believed her when she said I do. How can he believe her now? She tells him it was two minutes and he saw it. She told Max it was over. Bradley tells her that all he saw was Max’s dirty hands all over her. Stacey tells him she tried to tell him, but he didn’t want to hear it. Bradley looks at her. Stacey reminds him that she tried to tell him on their wedding day, but he told her it didn’t matter. Bradley tells her that he thought it was something from her past, some other bloke. He puts it together that Max was the married man. Stacey looks at Bradley and says, “the truth is you knew there was something wrong, but you were too scared to hear it.”
Max is sitting with the girls and explains that sometimes parents argue and have a falling out, but they fix it and get back together. He says that is what this is. Abi asks him why he was kissing Stacey. Max says it was because Stacey was upset, and he was trying to make her feel better. Lauren tells him they aren’t babies anymore and to tell them the truth. Max tells them that he only had a kiss and a cuddle with her, and it’s over. Abi wonders if he loves Stacey now and not mum. Max tells her that he loves their mum and not Stacey. Abi is confused and says that Stacey is married to Bradley now but does this mean she loves Max? Max tells them he made a mistake, and he doesn’t want them to hate him or disappoint them. Abi cries that she doesn’t want to leave. Max tells them both they aren’t going anywhere and he’s sorry he ruined their Christmas.
Stacey tells Bradley that she did it to get back at him and wanted to hurt him. He wonders why? She tells him he’d dumped her and made her feel cheap and dirty. He says she kept going back for more. He wondered how they did it. Snogs in the park, sneaky lunches? She says that he was married they never had long, and then he’d go back to Tanya. Bradley wonders if she finished it. She tells him no, he did. Stacey tells him when he left for Spain; Max dumped her. Bradley wonders why? It must have been because of the baby. Stacey swears she didn’t know, and when she did find out she told Max to come clean, but he ran instead. Bradley realizes that is the night he came round. Stacey tells him she wanted to tell him. He tells her he told her he loved her. She says she told him he’d find out what a horrible person she was. He wonders about the week before. Knickers in her pocket, her and Max were doing what they were doing. She tells him that he was really kind to her and suddenly she had her best friend back. He says he’d just asked her to marry him. She says they had a chance to be happy and she took it. He wonders what would have happened if Max had split with Tanya. She tells him it wouldn’t have mattered as she wants Bradley. Bradley wonders where they had their flings. She asks Bradley to forgive her. He says, “why should I?” He plays the scene over in his head about Max kissing her on their wedding day and becomes extremely angry. He wonders why she let Max kiss her. She says that she doesn’t know. He says she must have gotten something out of it. Bradley says I saw that look in your eye and she never looked at him like that. He wonders if the sex is what kept it going? He wants to know if that was what it was. She doesn’t want to say.
Tanya is sitting with the baby, and Max comes in. He wants to talk to her. She wonders if it’s a goodbye speech. He says he tried to explain. She says, “you mean you lied?” Max says no that he tried to tell them gently. She tells him she’s leaving and taking the kids. He tells her she doesn’t have to; this is her house and her life. She says it was. Max tries to comfort her, and she tells him not to touch her. She walks out. He wonders where she is going to go? She says a hotel, and she’s going to stick it on his card. Max asks her, then what? She says then they will start a whole new life somewhere else. He screams after her that it meant nothing. He tells her she hasn’t even heard his side of it. She looks at him and says what? More lies? He asks her what she wants from him. She tells him nothing. Then looks up and says there is something, a divorce.
Bradley is obsessed with the fact that Max and Stacey had a wild sex life and he feels like she never feels that way with him. He’s second-guessing every move, touch, feeling. He says that the two of them are like a couple of old mates. She likes it with Max and prefers it with him! He wonders if he cuts it. Stacey won’t answer him. She tells him it doesn’t even matter. He yells at her that it does matter, he’s his father! She tells him she wants him; he’s her husband. He wonders if he measures up. She asks him what does he want her to say? That he’s some big stud? She tells him this is stupid. She sits with him and begs him for another chance. He’s got to forgive her and give her
Max yells at Tanya WHY won’t you listen to me? She yells at him that she’s sick of the lies. He laughs. She asks him what? He says, “so it’s not like you’ve never crossed the line?” He reminds her that she took him while he was married. She tells him it’s not the same as he fell out of love with Rachel. He said it didn’t matter to her when he’d run off to see little Bradley. She said it wasn’t the same as she was out of her mind in love with him. He yells at her that he was out of his mind for Stacey. Tanya gasps and realizes the depth of the affair. He begs her, and she tells him that he broke her heart. He tells her it started right after Christmas when Bradley had broken up with her. Tanya reminds him she was only 19 years old. He tells her he knows he should have stopped himself, but he didn’t. Tanya wonders if she was pregnant when this was going on. He tells her no it was over before he found out. She adds it all up and discovers she was pregnant when this was going on. She catches him in another lie. She reminds him that he made her have Oscar when all the time he was seeing Stacey.
Stacey tells Bradley she wanted it to be him, to be with him. She tells him to kiss her, and he will see it is him she cares about. They kiss and then kiss some more. They become passionate, and Bradley stops. He says he’s sorry.
Tanya figures he was pining for Stacey while they were in Spain. Max says he is sorry. She deduces he came back and picked up right where they left off. He tells her they didn’t as she was engaged to Bradley. Tanya doesn’t believe him. She reminds him he was always sticking his nose in it trying to ruin things for Bradley. Max jumps up angry and tells her that is his son! He was into Tanya, into Oscar, into them! She says you were his best man; you gave the speech then came back here and kissed her! Then today, Christmas day! He tells her that she was upstairs putting Oscar to bed. He and Stacey talked about how they were happy in their lives. He feels nothing for her, and she feels nothing for him. Tanya panics that she let Stacey put Oscar to bed. Max tells her nothing happened. Tanya tells him she doesn’t believe him. He finally admits he gave her a little peck and neither of them felt anything. It’s over. Tanya doesn’t believe him and his lies. Tanya grabs her bags to leave, and Max stops her. He tells her he loves her, the girls, Oscar! He says he loves his family. Tanya tells him it’s too late and she pushes him away and walks out the door.
Bradley tells Stacey to go. Stacey begs him not to give up on them. Bradley says he’s asking her nicely. She begs him not to give up on them and to give it some time. They end up in the nursery, and she reminds him that they can try again. Bradley says no. He screams it was all lies! He tears up the flat and says he was the biggest liar of them all. He begs Stacey to please go. She takes off her ring, says she is sorry and leaves. Bradley breaks down in tears.
Tanya is carrying things down and tells the girls to go back in the sitting room. Tanya finishes packing the bag. Max grabs her hand. He tells her he doesn’t want her to leave. He needs her and loves her. She says fine; I’ll stay! You go! She tells him that this is her home, the girls home, Oscar’s home. He begs her not to make him leave. He begs for one more chance. She tells him he had his chance and he blew it. She tells him to get out. He asks what about the kids. She begs him just once to do the right thing. Leave the house, leave her alone, and go. He touches the sitting room door and walks out. He turns to look at Tanya with tears in his eyes. He says, “I love you, Tanya. I’ve never loved anyone as I’ve loved you. You are the one good thing in my life.” Tanya says Goodbye Max and shuts the door. She breaks down in tears, and the girls comfort her. Max walks down the stairs and stands in the pouring rain.
