Ian is confused by what she means. She tells him that it happens to one in four and he doesn’t want to believe it. She tells him it can happen to anyone. Ian says it doesn’t happen to people like them.

The police bring Lucy home. The officer tells Lucy she has to wait to make sure she gets her stuff and takes her to Pats. Lucy tells her she will be fine, but the police officer tells her she has to wait. Lucy turns on the light and Steven is sitting there.

At the hospital they continue to work on Jane. Ian is staring at his phone. A nurse walks by and glares at him. He holds the phone up to show her he is not using it and it has no power. He whispers under his breath about jumped up bureaucratic middle management. The nurse stops and asks him what he said. He says he wasn’t talking to her. She tells him it’s alright, as it’s his wife and it’s stressful times. He says it is. The nurse turns around and tells him not to worry about it. She says “us middle managers are used to dealing with rude relatives. It’s amazing how so many don’t realize the impact of their words though.” Ian says he wasn’t having a go at her. She says no it’s alright when they put you down feeling like they are entitled. She says it’s funny how someone’s words can stay with you for weeks after. He tells her that it’s a bit extreme. She says people do very weird things under pressure.

She tells them she’ll see them in the morning with their dad at the station and hopes that their stepmom will be ok. She leaves, and Lucy turns to Steven and tells him he’s got to get out of there. She tells him he’s got to get some cash and clothes and get out. She tells him if dad has told the police he’s got time to go still. Steven grabs a frying pan and says NO.

Pat and Peter are coming back in with a tray discussing the Wizard of Oz. She says that Dorothy was scared. You would be if your house had blown away, squashed the witches sister and the whole world was turned around. Then all you get is a man without a brain, one without a heart and another with no backbone. She says it’s starting to sound like real life, innit?

Ian is staring out of the door watching a man yell at the nurse. He demands to see his son and tells her she cannot stop him.

Steven tells her that if mum were here, she’d. Lucy asks what? Steve says she would look after her and hug her. That he could hear her voice anytime, he wanted. He asks if she can. Steven says he can see her if he closes his eyes. Lucy motions no she can’t. He blames Ian. He says that all he wanted was for him to admit it. To hold his hands up and admit that he’d done it. He asks Lucy why can’t he do that?

Ian is standing watching as they prep Jane for the operating room. The nurse walks over and asks Ian if he’d like to say something before they take her to theater. He says “I’m sorry.” She looks puzzled. He says that he’s sorry for what he said to her earlier. He didn’t mean to be rude, but sometimes you say things and do things, and you don’t mean to. He goes on that sometimes he doesn’t know what’s coming out of his mouth and it’s only later that I realize what I’ve done. He keeps on that it’s all such a mess. He says it’s starting to feel like it’s all his fault. The nurse stops him and says he should save the self-analysis until after they get Jane under. Ian tells her that it was not very professional. She tells him that if she didn’t like him before all of this why would she keep asking for him now?

Lucy tells Steven he doesn’t have to tell her what their dad is like. She knows already. “There were times when I would have been well up for locking him in the room. But she’d never do it, it’s weird. She tells him that the photos, making it look like mum was back; it was what she used to dream of before. Locking dad up so we would all think he was dead. And Jane. That doesn’t just hurt him, does it? She can see how it all sounds.” He says yeah when you say it out loud it sounds screwed. She says it is screwed. He jumps up and gets sick.

Ian is talking to Jane and asks her what she thinks about a holiday. And the bathroom suite she saw. She tells him that they can talk about this later. He goes on to say that they can paint the front door any color she wants. And about that baby… he’s not exactly looking like the best dad right now. He says that she is the best part of him. Jane cries “our baby?” She tells Ian that she loves him and they embrace. She tells Ian before they take her down that he needs to clean his teeth.

Pat declares joyfully that was because he was the Wonderful Wizard of Oz! Pat says if he’d just watched the film he’d understand. Bobby asks her to put the film on. She tells him it’s too late now. Peter again says “but he was just a little man?” Pat says yes he was just a little man faking it behind the curtain pulling levers and making out he was bigger than he was. Peter says he ripped Doris off after all that and flew off in a balloon. Pat laughs and says no, Dorothy. She figures he just got carried away trying to do more than he could. He was a bit of rubbish.

Ian is spinning his wedding ring around nervously as he waits for Jane to come out of surgery. he prays.

He tells her sarcastically that she’s fine, she’s just been shot! He apologizes and tells her that they are trying to repair her stomach from the damage. He thinks she’s going to be ok. He asks her if she came down to ask him that. She tells him that he was right. He says that is the first time. She breaks down and tells him that Steven is here. Ian is angered. She tells him that he is in the car and she can’t get him out of the car, and he’s acting strangely. He tells her that he wants nothing to do with him. He is not his son, and he never wants to see him. Lucy is upset. He asks Lucy for the keys to the car.
