Peter is up and Jane comes down. She asks him what he’s doing up and who he was talking to. He says he heard noises and looks towards the kitchen. Jane walks to the door and checks it and finds it unlocked. She realizes Lucy is gone. Lucy is at the tube station with Steven. Lucy is curious what they are doing. Steven tells her he needs her to see this with him. Jane calls Lucy’s phone but it goes to voicemail. Jane asks Peter what’s going on. He says that she just said she was going out.

On the tube Steven tells Lucy that she and Peter are all he’s got. He asks her if they are going to hate him? She tells him of course not. He says “whatever happens.” She replies whatever happens. Jane begs Peter to tell her where she went. He tells her she was just going for a walk and thinks she was meeting someone. Jane pulls out her phone and calls Steven. A phone rings inside the house. It’s Steven’s. Meanwhile Lucy and Steven walk up to an abandoned high rise.

Lucy tells Steven she is proper scared. She asks him what is this place? The lights go out and she screams for Steven. He turns on his flashlight. They continue up the stairs. Jane is on the phone with Pat explaining what’s happened. Steven unlocks the door and they go in. He’s looking around the corner. He tells Lucy to wait there. He’s walking around when Ian knocks him in the head with the door and runs for the exit. Steven grabs him by the hair and they fight. Ian is about to punch him when Lucy turns on the light. Lucy sees that it is Ian and is shocked to see him. Ian wonders if Lucy is next, if that is why she is there. Steven tells him that it is over. That’s why he’s there. He’s come to let him out. Ian grabs Lucy and hugs her. She is happy to see him and tells him that they thought he’d left. Ian tells her it’s ok. Ian asks if anyone knows she’s there. She says that he didn’t tell her where they were going. She tells Ian that Steven said that he needed to show her what he’d done. Steven says that he wanted it over. Lucy says “all this time he’d been here?” Steven says he brought Lucy because he thought if she was there that… I’m sorry he says.

Lucy tells Ian that Steven came a few days after he disappeared. Ian is angry and says “you mean the whole time I’ve been here you’ve been with my family?” Ian gets the phone and Lucy asks him what he’s doing? He says he’s calling the police. Ian says he thought he was going to die. Steven is upset and says he never meant and Ian cuts him off and says what you thought it was a practical joke? It just got out of hand? Ian says “what you thought this was like an April Fools.” Steven tells him to put the phone down and Ian tells him no. Lucy says “Dad!” Ian turns around and Steven has a gun. Ian says “you thought you were just going to let me out and that would be the end of it?”

Lucy says she thought he’d gotten rid of the gun. Steven says it’s a good thing he hadn’t or he’d be banged up in some old cell. He says he put mum in one and left her to die. Ian says she put herself in there. Lucy says “so all those messages?” Ian says all of it was Steven. Steve says he didn’t want them to forget her. He tells her he’d never do that to her. It’s just between him and Ian. Ian asks him if he means it. Steven says it is. Ian tells him that he doesn’t want Lucy there for this. They can have it out. Steven says she can’t go outside as it’s not safe. Ian tells her to go through to the kitchen where there is water, some biscuits and it’s safe.

Steven puts the gun away. Steven tells her to leave her phone with him as she is walking out of the room. Ian tells her to just give it to him. Steven takes it and the phone starts ringing. He cancels the call. Lucy looks at her dad.

Jane leaves a message for Lucy asking her where she is and if Steven is with her. She begs her to come home.

Ian tells him he’s figured out the who, the how but he can’t figure out the why. He asks Steven what he hoped to acheive? Steven says for his mum. Steven says that he did it for her. Ian says she tried to have him killed. Steven says rightfully so. She had to do it for her own sake. He tells Ian that she told him how Ian had this thing in him that turned anything good bad. Ian says that has a Cindy ring to it. She had to do it. Ian says “what have that lunatic take a shot at me?” She did it for her own selfish needs. Steven says look at his other wives they all turned out the same didn’t they? Ian says that none of them tried to kill him. Ian ask if he should have let her leave. Ian says “what and let her take my kids, home, money and leave me with nothing?” They argue about why he didn’t let her go. Ian says that Cindy was selfish and did things for herself and noone else. Steven says he should have not saved her. He continues to insult him and Ian says he took them back three times. Ian almost says that he almost didn’t when he found out Steven wasn’t his. Steven comes for Ian at every angle telling him what a horrible dad he was, horrible husband he was and how once he had his own kids he didn’t need them anymore. He tells him that he got what he wanted so why? He couldn’t forgive her could he? Ian says it was not enough for her Because he wasn’t enough. He says he thought after time he thought she might look at him like she did at Simon. Ian tells him the more he tried to make her love him the worse their fighting got. Ian tells him that it was never about him. That it was about him and Cindy. They were a disaster and it was as simple as that.

Pat comes in and asks Jane if she’s heard anything. Jane tells her no and Steven’s phone is there. It’s like some sick joke. Just then the house phone rings.

Steven asks Ian why he didn’t just go? Leave them be? Ian asks “what and just leave you and let the murdering cow get away with it? Steven yells at him and says don’t call her that! He tells Ian that she was happy. Ian says she wasn’t though. She split the family up and didn’t take Lucy or Peter. Steven fights back saying she would have taken her but he wouldn’t let her. Ian points out that she did split the family up and he fought hard to stop that. He says that he fought hard to keep him from going to New Zealand. Steven says that he was fighting to keep him away from his dad more like it. Ian says no he fought to keep the family together. Steven tells Ian that he hunted her down because of what she’d done to him. Steven tells Ian that he wouldn’t rest until she was put in some banged up old cell. Ian tells him that she put herself there. Steven says he put her there for her to die in. Ian tells him that no one could have known what was going to happen. Ian says “you can’t lay that one me.” Steven says she can’t but I can. Steven tells him the last thing she said to him was “don’t let him do it! Don’t let him do to you what he’s done to me.” Ian tells him that she was in that state because of what she’d done. Ian says she expexted him to pay that price. Steven said he came out of there that day wanting to take him on but he was just a kid. He tells Ian that he did what he had to, he got far away from him from that man who takes something good and destroys it.” Ian says then he should go ahead on to his new wonderful life then. Go back to Simon who is obviously number one to him just like he was to his mum. Ian wonders why bother come back? He got his life with Simon which is what his mum always wanted? Was it not all yellow brick road? Did he turn out not to be what he expected? he was the first one to leave Cindy with a child to raise? Steven tells him to shut up. Ian says “when it all went down him did you think to yourself who can I blame now? So you came back here to blame me?”

Steven calls for Lucy. They realize she’s gotten away. Steven says he thinks Ian was distracting him so Lucy could get away. Ian asks if he intended to keep her locked up as well. They argue and Steven says he just didn’t want his mum forgotten. Steven says that everytime his Nan would write she’d tell him all about what was going on, and who Ian had taken up with.” Ian asks if that was wrong that he moved on with his life. Steven says it was. His mum was handed out to a place she didn’t know with people who didn’t care about her and there was Ian moving on and living his life. He got married again and had another baby and handed out 50,000 bacon rolls. Ian asks him who this is really all about? Him or his mum. He tells Ian to get out and go find Lucy. He says he told him that is why he was here, to finish it.

Ian tells him that he never forgot her. Not one single day. He says he tried. Steven says you tried? How many wives? Ian tells him that is how he knew. he tells Steven “people like your mum, they cast a long shadow and sometimes it’s hard to walk out of the shadow.” He asks him to choose between his mum and Jane. Ian says Jane because people move on.

There is a knock on the door and it’s Lucy. She says Dad I didn’t know what to do. Jane comes rushing in. She realizes what has happened here and attacks Steven calling him a viscious liar. She smacks him and he falls to the ground and the gun falls out. Steven picks it up and decides to shoot himself. Lucy begs him not to as does Ian. Steven says he might as well as he’ll end up in some cell just like his mum. He goes to pull the trigger and Lucy jumps at him and they all tussle over the gun. The gun goes off.
