Steven is in the bathroom looking at old photos of his mum, him and the twins. Pat calls for him, and he says he’s coming. He opens the door and finds Lucy there. Pat says she should be in school. Lucy says she’s going. Pat says she better as she’s is in enough trouble with Jane already. Lucy says that she couldn’t sleep all night worrying about it. She says she has wanted to get rid of it for ages. Lucy says that she wondered at times what it would be like. Steven says “to use it?”
Kevin is cooking breakfast. Denise says she doesn’t want anything. Kevin says that they agreed to get back to normal. Pat sees Lucy leave. Libby says that they can’t just get back to normal. Pat says they can and will. Kevin asks Libby what she has on today. She says her report unless Tamwar has nicked all the books. Kevin says that Denise has her job interview. Pat says she’ll keep good thoughts. Libby asks what Chelsea and Deano will be doing today? Pat says they’ll be getting on with things. Kevin asks Libby again if she wants breakfast, but Libby leaves.
Shirley dials the number on the card. The door buzzer rings. Shirley answers and says “have you forgotten your flaming key again.” Vinnie says it’s him, from yesterday. Shirley buzzes him in and runs to put on her neck brace. He asks how she is today. She says like she’s been run over by a ton of motors. He has brought her flowers. She wonders if he thinks that will make everything better. She says she has no way of going to work. He believes he could help. He tells her he was thinking of her last night. She says she was thinking of him too every time she tried to turn over. He says he’s never bowled a woman over before or knocked her off her feet. He tells her he’s going to sort her job out and asks her what pub she works at. Shirley gets nervous and says it’s the Queen Vic.
Mrs. Masood and Shabnam are driving in the car, and it’s lurching. Shabnam thinks her mum is doing it, but it’s the car. She nearly runs over Vinnie. He says no harm was done. Kevin is talking to Libby and telling her that everything will get back to normal soon. Just then Mrs. Masood yells at him that his car has stopped. He tells her just a minute. He tells Libby that it will be ok. Mrs. Masood tells him that his car has stopped. He tells her that she bought it from him and it’s not his problem. She can take it down to the boys at the arches. She says he doesn’t care. He says he offered her a warranty. Mrs. Masood says he did at an extra cost. She says with an attitude like that it’s no wonder his son ended up in prison. Kevin turns and walks away.
Jane is taking out the trash when Steven walks up. She tells him she’s sorry it’s come to this but she’s got to hold everything together, and she can’t do that what with the stunt he pulled the other day. He says that he took his brother and sister out for the day. Steven says he was making up for lost time. Jane says that from what she was told it was his choice to leave. Steven says “he said that did he?” Steven tells Jane that it was more like get out or be pushed out. Jane gives him a look, and he tells her that she is looking at him the same way Ian did. Steven says: “What could I do? I was twelve years old, and he held all the cards. Now I … ” Jane asks him what? He walks off.
Carly walks up to Shabnam and Mrs. Masood and says her dad sent her over. Mrs. Masood asks if her dad can’t fight his own battles? Carly holds up her tools and says she’s there to look at the car.
Vinnie comes into the pub, and Peggy yells they aren’t open yet and won’t be until next week at this rate. Vinnie says he’s not there for a drink. Peggy asks him if he’s taking in the view, is he? He says ain’t no judge that would convict him for that. She asks him what he’s doing there then. Vinnie tells her that today he’s Shirley. She asks him why and he tells her that he’s there on account that she can’t come in due to being a bit incapacitated. She asks him if he has a screw loose or something. He says he’s just doing a favor for a friend. She says he might be a friend of Shirley’s, but he’s a stranger to her. She tells him to sling your hook.
Heather says “So Vinnie is back then?” Shirley says he is and he’s going to pay. Heather is all dreamy eyed over Vinnie.
Tracie comes into the pub to find it all covered in toilet paper. She calls for Peggy. Outside Billy is wondering what is going on. Peggy yells out the window for Vinnie to get inside. She wants to know what he’s playing at tossing her loo paper around. He tells her he’s there to help cover Shirley’s shift. He will do whatever odd job she wants, clear the glasses and clean up. If at the end of the day she is not happy then she can have his motor outside. All he’s trying to do is help a damsel in distress. Mo, Billy, and Garry laugh at that. They tell Peggy she should give him a chance.
Steven is inside the house looking at all the things lying around. He leaves and bumps into Lucy. She wonders what he’s doing. She asks him if he’s gotten rid of the gun. He asks her why she did it? Why did she give him the gun? He tells her he hid it someplace so it won’t mess with her head anymore. But the gun is in his knapsack.
Kevin and Carly pull up in the car, and it sounds great. Denise comes out, and he says she has an interview. Denise says they called her in early. Mrs. Masood calls out good luck. Kevin tells Mrs. Masood he’s been meaning to ask her something.
Steven is waiting for the DC on his dad’s case. He asks if there is any new information. DC says nothing and if there is he’ll come by the house to tell them. Steven tells him that he isn’t living at home anymore.
Heather comes in saying that there were Jehovah Witnesses at the door. They were ever so lovely. Shirley is tense and asks how long it takes to go to the cash point. Heather asks if that is the only reason she wants to see him. Shirley says he better not of done a runner as they’ll have Norm on them soon. Heather asks if there isn’t a tiny part that likes him. Shirley says her purse.
In the pub, Vinnie tells Peggy he ran Shirley over with his car. Peggy wants to know if she is ok. He tells her she’s banged up and that is why he’s there. Peggy sees Pat come in and introduces him to the number one fan of Shirley Carter. Pat asked if he’s the block which hit Shirley yesterday. He says the same. Vinnie reckons that deep down Shirley has some good spots. Vinnie starts to wonder if no one likes Shirley.
Keith tries to get Peggy’s attention about the motor with the bow around it. He alerts her that someone was trying to get into it. Vinnie heads outside with Garry.
Kevin tells Carly what he’s done, and she wonders if he’s serious. He says why not? She says “you’ve decided to invite the Masoods over for dinner?” Kevin says he wants to bury the hatchet. Carly laughs and says she knows where Denise would like to bury it. He says after a Kevin Wicks special she’ll be alright.
Vinnie and Garry see that they only got into the boot. Garry asks if that is what he thinks it is.
Denise walks up to Libby. She asks her about her exams. She says she got an A, but it’s a disaster because Tamwar got an A star. Kevin walks up to Denise and asks her how it went. She says she has shoes older than the people there. Kevin tells her to come on FoxyFox. She says alright keep the faith. Mrs. Masood pulls up and asks how the interview went. She says Denise can tell her over dinner later. Denise looks at Kevin.
Shirley is in a panic and says that Vinnie has sussed it and she showed him her hand talking about the wages. He’s figured she wanted money off him and he’s gone. Heather says she doesn’t think he’s like that. Shirley says hasn’t heather been kicked in the teet enough to understand that. Heather says she knows she’s worried about Deano. Shirley yells at her and walks off.
Peggy hears cheering and comes around to see a fuss ball table. Vinnie tells her that it’s a drink a game. Peggy is pleased.
Kevin thanks Carly for sticking around and supporting him.m Denise says this has got to be some joke. She thinks this is the only thing keeping her going thinking it was some kind of wind up. After all, she’s done to her. Pat answers the door. Kevin greets them, and they say they rushed to be on time. No one seems happy to be there.
Steven is packing his bags. Pat says he should stay well away from downstairs. She asks him what he’s doing, and he tells her that he is going. He feels like he can’t breathe. She tries to stop him, but he gets angry and rushes off. Pat is shocked at his anger.
Shirley comes in and starts to explain to Peggy what’s happened when she sees Vinnie playing foosball. Peggy says he’s worked her shift for her. Heather thinks it’s nice. Peggy says he hasn’t done poorly either. Mo says he isn’t bad on the eyes either. Peggy asks if he’s the new boyfriend. Shirley says she hardly knows him. Peggys says he is a cut above the norm. Vinnie comes up to Heather and says that he wants to get to know Shirley better. Shirley looks on, and Heather seems disappointed he’s not interested in her.
The dinner party is uncomfortable. Denise says her interview didn’t go well. Mrs. Masood says that employers can have their pick. Denise makes a snide comment. Mrs. Masood tells her not to take it; personally, employers just have to step up their game these days. She says look at Tamwar he got an A star on his exam. Kevin asks Libby how she did on hers, and she storms off.
Lucy is doing homework when a message comes in from Steven. It says he needs to see her. Jane asks who that is and Lucy says it’s Lauren.
Mrs. Masood wonders if Libby is not coming back. Mrs. Masood goes on about how she hates to see a child in trouble, but justice must be served. You know if you break the law you serve the punishment. Denise loses her temper, and she and Mrs. Masood go at each other. Mrs. Masood tells Denise that the house she had her heart set on, well they just bought it. Denise fumes.
Shirley and Vinnie come back, and she reminds him that it was one shift. He has her wages but tells her she can have them if she agrees to one thing. Shirley says she knew it was coming. Vinnie says he wants a date. Shirley is shocked. He won’t give her the wages unless she gives him a date. He ends up leaving them for her with his card that says call me on it.
Lucy lets Steven in the house. He’s upset. She asks him if he hasn’t still got the gun? Steven says “this is what mom did. This is what he drove her too!” She asks him what he’s talking about. Peter calls out to Lucy. He wonders who she’s talking to. She tells him to please go back to bed. Steven says he never meant it to get like this. It’s gone all wrong. He asks Lucy to come with him. He wants to show her something.
