Max waits for Bradley. Bradley comes out of his house, and Max calls out to him. Bradley tries to ignore him but Max chases after him telling him that it doesn’t have to be like this and he’s taken it the wrong way. Max tells him it’s not a big deal. Bradley says that it is to him.
Steven describes what life is like in New Zealand. Lucy and Peter are mesmerized by his tales. Jane comes in and asks Peter and Lucy for a hand. They ignore her, and she tells them she needs a hand and she’d like to talk to them about their dad. Lucy and Peter ask Steven if they can come to visit. Jane says that surely Steven has things he needs to do. He has all these beautiful places to see. She suggests that he might even want to move on. Peter and Lucy both make him promise that he’ll be there when they get home from school. Steven agrees, and the twins are all smiles. Jane lets him know he can have a shower or do whatever and wants to make sure he’ll be alright on his own. He tells her he thought he’d come to give her a hand today. Jane seems taken aback.
Peggy bumps into Ronnie coming out of the Minut Mart with milk. Peggy says two minutes in there, and the milk will be curdling. Ronnie asks if they are still arguing. Peggy says it’s even worse now as they aren’t even speaking. She says that she is off for some retail therapy and while she’s out for Ronnie to sort it. She tells her to bang their heads together if need be.
Max is cleaning up and tells Lauren she is not getting a camera. Lauren wants to know why not. Abi is caring for the gerbils and says that Marge One is crying. She fears splitting them all up will cause them all to die. Max says they won’t, and they have to go. Lauren whinges about her friends having a camera. Max tells her that he doesn’t care if the Pope has one she is not getting one and putting photos of herself on the internet.
Ronnie comes in and asks Roxy if she’s found that ring. Roxy tells her she hasn’t. Phil tells them both that they know Ben hasn’t got it. Ronnie tells Roxy if she sorted that room out she might find it. Roxy gets offended. Ronnie tells them both she’s meant to sort them both out on Peggy’s orders. They make progress until Roxy says that she’s not the one that brought crazy Stella into the family. Phil asks her if she really wants to have that conversation then they’ll have it. He tells her that after something like that happens, you learn not to let people around your kids until you can trust them. Ronnie says that trust works both ways. Maybe they need to earn his trust, but he could trust them and let Roxy run the bar. Roxy asks Ronnie where she is going? Ronnie says she’s going out. Phil says over his dead body. Roxy tells him she bets she can double the takings. Ronnie says now that it’s sorted she’ll see them later.
Tanya muses about the state of the floors. Max tells her that when she’s gone everything falls apart. The girls come in for lunch money. Abi begs her mum not to get rid of all the guinea pigs. Tanya reminds her that the ASPCA told them they need their room and they must give them to new homes. Max asks why he can’t have her way with words. He hugs her and tells her he’s glad she’s home. Abi is fussing with the guinea pigs, and Lauren swipes Max’s credit card to order her camera.
In the cafe, Denise, Chelsea, Dean, and Kevin are discussing how it will go in court and that their brief will be round to prepare them for it. Steven comes in and asks Jane where she wants him. Jane tells him it will be harder to explain how to do it all. She looks at Kevin and introduces Kevin and Steven. Kevin tells his family that Steven is his cousin Simon’s son. He introduces them to his family. Jane tells him if they’d like to go and have a catch up she doesn’t mind. Kevin tells him that it’s not a good time right now, but if he’s hanging about, he’d love to. Steven says he’s around as long as Jane will have him and says it would be great to catch up.
Yolande is showing Charlie the latest ordering fiasco. She says that it usually’s Patrick’s job. Charlie asks if he’s not ready to come back to work yet. She says she can’t get him to do anything. It’s like he’s lost all interest in the world and doesn’t want to leave the house. Charlie suggests that he go round to visit him. He also recommends that if she slashes the prices on the beer, it will move quickly.
Stacey gets in Max’s car and tells him that she thought they’d finished all these secret meetings. Max asks her what Bradley’s said to her. She says not much as he’s been quite moody. Max says he came at him with both barrels. She says that he can’t do it. He says that he could do it. Max goes on that she asked him not to and said it would be the best thing. She says it is. He says that they were all going to be there playing happy family. Stacey said which is going to be hard enough without you being his best man. He tells her he could do it unless she’s still got feelings? She says because it is sick Max. He says if that is the case then they shouldn’t be getting married. He asks her if she still gets that knot in her stomach? She says yeah well you can get that from eating too many raisins. She tells him he doesn’t get it. Bradley is her future. When she looks at him, she can see it. She looks at Max and asks him if he knows what her future looked like with him? She says it looked black. She says she’s going back to work. Max asks her how he’s going to make it up to Bradley when he doesn’t even have a good excuse. She says he’s full of them and he’s always got a good excuse.
Shirley is moving around all of Heather’s creepy dolls. She tells Heather she feels like Chucky will jump at her with a meat cleaver. Heather says she talks to them. Shirley tells her she isn’t making it any better. Heather tells her that Kevin and all of them were in the pub talking with some solicitor. She says that the law and Shirley were never a pretty pair.
Keith is walking by the mart and sees Yolande putting up the 1/2 price advert. He calls to some lads to follow him in. In the Pub Roxy has a board filled with cocktails. Phil calls her Calamity Jane. Patrick and Charlie come in, and Patrick gets nervous. Patrick makes a move to leave when Roxy comes to grab their arms and escort them to their table.
Steve is trying to be helpful but knocks over a cup of milk. Jane is clearly frustrated and asks him to come and sit down. Jane tells him that she knows she asked him to stay on. Steven says he’s glad he did and is getting to know the twins and helping. She says the thing is it’s not helping. She knows he didn’t anticipate walking into the middle of a family crisis. Jane says that it is, but while he’s there, she doesn’t feel like Peter and Lucy aren’t taking it in about their dad. Steven goes from smiling to almost glaring at Jane. Jane tells him that she thinks it is best that he moves on, today. Steven gets up and runs out through the market stalls. He runs into Pat, and she asks him to take his old Nan for a drink. He tells her he can’t as he’s going to be leaving. She asks him why as he’s only just gotten there. He says it’s not his idea, seems he’s crowding Jane out. She tells him not to take it too personally as she has a lot on her plate right now. Pat tells Steven it’s all the more reason to spend an hour or two propping up the bar with her.
In the pub, Roxy tells Phil it’s not too bad for a Monday. Pat walks in with Steven and asks Phil if he recognizes Steven. He says not sure that he does. She tells him it’s Steven, Steven Beale. Phil says “you get rid of one Beale and another pops up.” Steven quips back that he’s not a Beale, he’s a Wicks, and he never was a Beale. Pat seems dismayed by his attitude. They walk off to a table. Keith leans over to Charlie and Patrick and tells them that they have some cheap booze. Charlie asks why they should care. Keith says because it’s fifty pence a can. Bradley comes in to meet Max. Max thanks him for coming. Bradley tells him he thought he had something to say. Max tells him that him asking him to be his best man caught him off guard. He tells Bradley that he felt he’d want to ask a mate or someone who’d been there for him, not someone who’d missed all the crucial moments of his life. He tells Bradley that they should do it normal. He tells Max that he couldn’t ask him to be there for all those other times, but this time, he could ask, and he did. Bradley walks out angrily. Roxy walks over to Keith’s table and reminds them of the drink specials. They tell her that they are like old buffalo and stuck in their ways. Beer is their thing. She tells them if they change their minds then they know about them. Roxy walks away and Winston calls out to three and Keith passes him a beer. They laugh at their antics. Pat walks up to Steven with drinks. She tells him its a shame he is leaving when he’s just getting to meet everyone. He says that Jane asked him to stay then leave. She tells him she’s been through a lot and she’s missing Ian badly. Steven says that even after all he’s done? Pat says yes, she loves him and they made a great team. She says that Ian drives her mad, but they have a good marriage. Pat says that some people leave such a large hole. She tells him that she never stopped missing his Dad. Steven suggests he might find someone to put him up for a while, a floor or a sofa or something. She tells him she has that to offer and he is welcome to. She suggests Jane might change her mind and just needs a bit of space. He should go out and have fun, maybe continue with his travels.
Shirley looks on as the solicitor arrives at Kevin’s. Sean walks up to her and suggests they hold a candlelight vigil. Shirley tells him that it ain’t over till it’s over. He tells her that a fancy suit isn’t going to save them and neither is she.
Bradley has a coffee with Stacey in the cafe. Bradley is going on about how selfish Max is. Tanya walks in and says she’s looking for Jane. Yolande filled her in about Ian. Stacey asks her if she had a lovely time away. Tanya tells her that she did and had the certificates to prove it. Tanya looks at their faces and asks if they didn’t just have a barney? She sits down and tells them to tell Aunty Tanya all about it. Stacey says it’s really not a big deal. Bradley tells her to ask her husband.
Dean tells the solicitor that he’s only ever had a caution. He tells Dean that it shouldn’t cause them any significant problem. Chelsea asks him about the character letters that Denise suggested. He tells her that it’s a good idea. Dean says he might even wear a suit. A tie might swing them. Kevin chastizes him. Denise asks Brendon the solicitor to explain to them what to expect. He tells her that it doesn’t give him any pleasure in telling her this, but the courts do not take it lightly that someone has perverted the course of justice and they take it really seriously. He explains that the judge spent time in youth court so that will help. Denise says that it has to count for something that they came forward. He agrees and says that their continued cooperation helps. He is confident he has everything he needs to plead for a reduced sentence. Denise looks shocked.
Tanya has a go at Max about being stupid and turning Bradley down. He tells her to talk to Bradley. Tanya tells him she’s talking to him. She tells him he’s been against this marriage since the beginning. Max agrees. She tries to figure it out then suggest that it’s Stacey. He doesn’t think she’s good enough for Bradley. He agrees and says that he can do better. She fights back that she is good enough and just because she doesn’t have the education. Max interjects that Bradley is a bright boy. Tanya says that she’s only got her gc’s and all. He tells her Stacey is nothing like her. Tanya says that Stacey could be like her. Max says that it doesn’t matter where you grow up or did Stacey will never have as much class as Tanya. Abi walks in and says that the Marges are ready and they’ve said their goodbyes. Tanya tells Max that if he doesn’t do something she will.
Chelsea whinges that she cannot go to prison. Denise tells her it might not come to that. Kevin agrees and says if it comes to that she will get through it. Other people have and far worse. Chelsea whinges on that he said a reduced sentence. Dean makes a joke and Chelsea reminds him that this is serious. He tells her “look at us! We are hardly Britan’s most wanted! I’ll buy you breakfast the day after.” Libby walks in and sits down and pouts. Denise asks her how the project is going. She complains that she was meant to be paired with Kayleigh, but then they had to draw straws, and she’s now paired with the worst! Dean asks her who and she says Tamwar. And he’s insisted on coming around tonight!
Tanya comes into Jane’s with Abi and the guinea pigs. She says she’s only just heard. Jane tells her she’d rather hear about her. Tanya tells her she never knew massage was so popular among 20-30-year-old men. Jane tells her do tell! Tanya says she quite liked it and not to tell her husband. They have a good giggle. Steven comes in and asks Abi who she is. She explains she’s Tanya’s daughter. She tells him all about the Marge’s. He picks up one. She tells him that it’s cruel to keep animals in cages. He says that sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. Abi gets uneasy and asks him to give her back the guinea pig. Tanya comes in and grabs Abi and says she’ll see Jane over at the pub later for a drink. Jane asks Steven if he’s all packed. He tells her he told the twins he’d be there when they got home from school. She tells him it’s better if he goes before they get home. It’s an uncomfortable exchange.
Tamwar has arrived to work with Libby. Denise offers him some squash. Libby says that he doesn’t do E numbers or caffeine. Dean asks him a question and the next thing you know Libby is rushing him out the door. Denise says she thought his mom was picking him up. Libby says she can finish it all and will see him tomorrow. She shuts the door and sits down at the table frustrated. They all look at her in bewilderment.
Roxy says she doesn’t understand it. They’ve (Patrick, Charlie, Winston, Keith) sat there all day and she’s hardly served them. Pat tells her to put on her sheriff’s badge and go over there. Roxy walks up and hears the cans. She reaches down picks it up and dumps it on the table. She’s reading them the riot act when Ronnie comes in. She screams at Patrick the most, and he takes the brunt of it. She calls him a stupid old man and orders him to get out of the pub.
Stacey and Bradley are arguing about Max turning him down. Sean walks in and wonders what’s happening. Bradley’s cheeks have gone all red he says. He says it’s to do with his best man. He’s turned him down. Sean volunteers. Bradley tries to undo it, but Sean is set to give him the best stag night ever. The phone rings and Stacey answers it. She looks at Bradley and says that Tanya wants them to come round for a drink.
Charlie is going at Roxy hard. He tells her she has no idea how long it took for him to convince Patrick to put his coat on and leave the house today. He tells her it’s set him back weeks. Ronnie says that Roxy did have a good reason. Charlie says it wasn’t down to Patrick. Phil asks if it wasn’t him then who was it? Keith is slinking past, and Phil calls out “Miller?” Keith says he was just leaving. Phil tells him to do it faster before his boot hits his behind. Roxy said the bag clearly said, Minut Mart, what was she to think. Phil calls her a liability, and she should spend more time doing her job than looking like the Village People. She tells Phil he’s an ungrateful sod. He tells her she is a liability. Ronnie tells him that Ben might be the most important person in his life, but Roxy is the most important to her.
Heather tells Shirley she is proud of her. Shirley looks over at Kevin and family and says that whatever the solicitor has said they don’t look happy. Over at their table, they are teasing Libby about Tamwar. She says she doesn’t fancy him. He’s the only one to get a higher grade than her.
Steven looks over at the house. Lucy comes in, and she wonders where Steven is. Jane tells her that it just wasn’t the right time for him to be there what with her Dad and all. Lucy screams at Jane “why do you have to ruin everything?” Steven comes in the door, and Lucy hugs him. He looks at Jane and says he couldn’t leave without saying goodbye.
Tanya says she was off learning about massages and relaxation and they were falling apart. Max asks Bradley how long he’s going to keep this up. Bradley says he doesn’t know 4 weeks, 40 years, he doesn’t know. Stacey interjects that this is her wedding day and she wants everyone to get along and be happy. Tanya agrees and suggests they have a drink to celebrate. She asks Bradley for help. Stacey walks up to Max and tells him that they are nearly there. Tanya and Bradley bring the drinks in, and Max says he needs a smoke.
Lucy is begging Steven now to go. He’s just gotten there, and he promised to go through the photos of their mom together. She says that she almost can’t remember what she looked like in person. When she closes her eyes all she can see is a photo. Steven says “Lucy.” Lucy tells him to take her with him, and they’ll go and find her together. She knows he’s there. Steven tells her that their Mom is dead and whoever has been sending her the messages is sick. He tells her that if she wants to know what mom looks like all she has to do is look in the mirror. She hugs Steven and says if he leaves she’s got no one. Jane walks in and calls her name. Lucy runs off.
Peggy arrives home to find Phil leaving. She wonders where he’s going. He tells her not to start. She asks if it’s the girls? Does he want a drink? She tells him she can’t lose him. He tells her she is one in a million. He’s not running away. He and Ben are going to see Grant.
Sean walks up to Max and says “tick tock four weeks and counting then you and me we’ll be family.” Max calls him a cockroach under his shoe. He says maybe he should go and see Tanya. He wonders why and he tells him that he’s Bradley’s best man. He looks at Max and says that he and Tanya are going to be spending a lot of time together.
Jane stops Steven from leaving and tells him that it’s a help having him there.
Max comes barreling in and tells Bradley that he’s sorry for not understanding how much this meant to Bradley. He walks over and hugs Tanya and tells Bradley that he would love to be his best man. Stacey is not happy as Bradley gladly hugs his Dad.
