Len and Pat are running away from the guards. Pat is wondering why her mum lied to her.
Minty and Hazel and walking back to her flat. They discuss Garry and Hazel says he will adjust. Hazel says it’s a shame for him to leave and all. He says she could come back with him.
Pat and Len run through gate gap, and Pat drops some papers. Len picks them up but misses a few sheets.
Garry is leaving the hotel and Dawn calls after him. He quips “what does your baby need changing?” She begs him to please listen.
Pat and Len are going down the motorway. Pat demands Len pull over. He pulls off onto a dirt road. Pat tells him they have to go back. The paper that shows where her sister was transferred gone. He asks if she is sure. She screams, of course, she is sure.
Heather is sobbing when her phone rings. Shirley finds her and tries to cheer her up. Shirley tells her that she will take her back home. Heather says she isn’t sure where she belongs. Shirley tells her no bloke is worth all this. Heather reminds her that she has them eating out of her hand. Shirley says maybe when she was 15 but not now. Heather cries that she just wants to go home.
Dawn and Garry are chatting. He tells her about Minty and his mum. She tells him that she made a mistake and she’s sorry. She says that she was trying to run away from everything in a way. She says if you are always looking over the horizon you miss that everything you want is right in front of your face. She asks him to get out of there, just the three of them.
Shirley and Heather go back to the car but find a boot on the tire. Just then Charity Kase comes walking up behind Shirley. She says they must be in a spot, Shirley replies that they are. Charity recognizes Shirley right off. Charity asks if she remembers her from the event at the Vic. Charity offers Heather and Shirley a ride back to London. Charity asks what about your car. Shirley tells her not to worry about it.
Pat is trying to remember the name of the home. She is not sure. She wonders why her mum lied to her. She is mad at herself for losing the paper. Len says they’ll search the web and they’ll find her. Pat says she didn’t have him down for somebody into boy’s toys. He asks her what she did have him down as. She says she isn’t sure. He said even he couldn’t mess things up in half a day. She asks if that is what he does.
Minty and Hazel arrive back on the square. He lets it slip that he loves her. She kisses him.
Pat wonders what would have happened if they’d never sent the letter. She wonders if Len thinks she might still be alive. He reminds her she was transferred her 15 years ago. Pat says the thought of facing 40 years of guilt was terrible. Len finds the care home name.
Garry and Dawn are having a grand time on the pier. He makes her wear a silly hat, and they are having a great time. Garry is feeling romantic and says he doesn’t want to go back to how it is. Dawn tells him he is the sweetest guy and she and Summer are lucky to have him. Garry suddenly runs off and tells Dawn to wait there.
Charity drops off Shirley and tries to tempt her into coming with them. Shirley turns them down. Heather turns to leave, and Shirley tells her NO we are going to get drunk today.
Garry comes back with two ice creams, one with a ring in it. He proposes to Dawn. She tells him that she can’t. He says “we’re good together aren’t we?” She tells him that they are, they are best mates. She tells him that she needs to do this on her own, looking down at Summer. He wonders if he’s made a pratt of himself and she tells him no way. They head back to Walford.
Len and Pat arrive at Springvale where her sister was transferred. A van pulls up filled with residents. Len asks her what is going to happen if she goes in and finds her sister alive. She says she pretended she didn’t exist once; she can’t do it again. Just then a young lady, Rosie, says hello to Pat. Will Passmore, the manager, comes up and asks how he can help. Pat explains she is there for Jo Harris. He wonders who is asking. Pat says she is her sister. He says they better come in.
Back at the Vic, Shirley and Heather are trying to liven the place up. Kevin finds her and says she has some explaining to do. She tries to blame Pat, but he tells her she already called him. She lies and says it’s fine and the car broke down. Heather is still down in the dumps. Heather tells Shirley she only keeps her around to make herself look better. Heather frowns. Shirley asks if she doesn’t believe her.
Will explains that Joan did pass away. He shows her photos of Joan. He shows her a photo of Joan and Michael, her husband.
Garry, Summer, and Dawn arrive back in Walford. Dawn says she will pay him back for the room. He says not to worry, so long as he doesn’t bump into his Mum and Minty. She tells him she’s sorry. Garry says never say never.
Heather hears her favorite song, and suddenly Shirley is singing “Baby I’m your Man” Heather brightens up.
Garry goes in the flat and finds his Mum and Minty. Garry says to have it your way. Have my mum, have my flat. Minty tells him he’s a pratt. Garry tells him he won’t be there to pick up the pieces when she does a runner. Hazel says she’s not going anywhere. Minty steps in and tells him to stop. Garry says “oh she’s got you playing the big protective boyfriend now, eh?” She’s making a mug out of you. Hazel speaks up, and Garry tells her he’s told her once already to shut it. Minty explodes at him, and Garry asks him what he’s going to do? Plant one on him? Minty I’ve been here before. I’ve seen them come and I’ve seen them go. Could have done with one of them revolving doors now couldn’t you have mother? They’ve got a word for it, don’t they. Minty screams at him “what is our problem? We love each other. I know we should have told you. I’m sorry. She’s your mother; you are supposed to want to see her happy. And I’m your best mate. Or is it we’ve got each other and you haven’t got a cat in hells chance with Dawn.” Garry decks Minty in the nose and walks out. Hazel tends to Minty.
Will explains that Joan and Michael got together in 1963. It was the same year her mum told her that she had passed. Pat is furious her mum hid this from her. Will explains that parents didn’t get the same support. She wonders if Joan ever spoke or asked questions about them. He says it was before his time, but she did often speak about Patricia. This makes Pat feel a bit better that she remembered her.
Shirley and Heather have the whole pub cheering as they finish their song.
Pat and Len thank Will for his time and head out. Pat says to Len “bet you wish you hadn’t offered me that lift” Len replies that it is a different way of spending the day. He tries to comfort her by reminding her that Joan wasn’t alone. Pat says “no she was dumped.” Len says she lived a full life of love and happiness. More than most. Pat tells him she’ll make her way to the tube. He says he will take her back. She makes sure he wants to take her to London. He says it’s been a while since he’s seen the Eastend.
Hazel doctors Minty’s bleeding lip. She asks him if he regrets her coming back. He is not.
Shirley and Heather are drunk and going for chips. Heather drops their photos and picks them up. They laugh, and Heather says she’s missed the bus. Shirley tells her to stay over. Heather says she’s not sleeping on the sofa. Shirley says she’s not sleeping with her.
Keith and Mickey are excited about the room and hope Dawn likes what they did while she was gone. She loves it.
Len and Pat arrive back in the square. She offers for him to come in. He says no. She thanks him. He tells her she got what she came for. He stops her as she goes to make her way in and gives her his card. She didn’t think he was the sort of bloke who needed company. She goes in, and Len takes a long look around the square and shudders and hurries to get in his van.
Garry comes back to the flat. He pulls the ring he had for Dawn out of his pocket. Minty sees him and asks him if he wants some tea. Garry says he’s fine. He leaves the ring in his jacket on the table and goes to his room.
Pat is going through Joan’s belongings and sees that her mum sent her letters and cards. Pat is so happy. She picks up the photo of Michael and Joan and places it with the other family photos. She smiles.
Minty has his tea and sits down. Minty moves it, and the ring falls out. He kneels to picks it up and says “oh mate.” Just then Hazel walks in, screeches and says “I do!”
