Shirley and Heather race off as Pat screams at them. Pat tosses her shoe at the man who helped them. She tells him that was her car. He says to her” A woman with a temper.” Pat is confused. They banter back and forth, and he finally tells her that he has some adhesive in the back of his car to repair her shoe.
Meanwhile, Shirley is setting Heather straight about how she won’t go back to get Pat. Heather wonders what Pat will do. Shirley doesn’t care. Heather fears Pat and what she might do next time they see her.
Pat is on the phone explaining to Kevin that Shirley stole the car off her. The man listens to her intently. Pat says the next time she sees Shirley she will do her down. She tells him that where she comes from when someone does you wrong, then you do them wrong double until they stay down. He asks her where she lives. She tells him Walford. He hands Pat her shoe back, and she says she will call a taxi. The man offers her a lift. He says he likes her earrings.
In Brighton, Garry and Summer are having a grand time out. He shows her the sea, and they end up on the carousel. Dawn is walking the streets and stops at a shop to admire a dress.
Pat is attempting to get a taxi. No one can come within an hour and she is frustrated. She asks the man if the offer of a lift is still on the table. He says she’s missed her chance. She talks to the taxi company again. The man asks her where she’s headed and she replies Worthy. He tells her to get in. He introduces himself as Len Harker. Pat is thankful. He asks where he can drop her. She says just to drop her at the station. He offers to take her to her destination, and she declines.
Heather and Shirley arrive in Brighton. Shirley asks how she’s going to find Garry. Heather says she is going to call him. Shirley says she has a better idea. She tells Heather to give her this static noise when she gives her the sign. Shirley calls Dawn and gets it out of her where she and Garry are staying. Just as Dawn is hanging up, she finishes admiring the dress. The shop owner comes out to chat her up. He ends up spilling her coffee all over her. Dawn cries that it is ruined. Garry and Summer arrive back to find Dawn still out. He cuddles Summer and watches telly.
Len and Pat talk about guilt and how it eats at you. He says he doesn’t feel any guilt anymore. He reckons he’s a decent man, and it’s not despite what he’s been through but because of it. Pat works out he’s flirting with her. He offers to buy her lunch but then remembers she has somewhere to be. She says she doesn’t often feel scared. He says that emotions are here and gone. Up and down like a merry go round. Pat says or like a rocking horse. She asks him if he makes them. He replies that he does indeed. Pat takes him up on his offer of lunch.
Shirley is listening to voicemails from Kevin. She is talking to Heather but realizes she’s gone. Heather is leaving a voicemail for Garry. Shirley asks if she is sure she wants to go through with this. Dawn is having the time of her life wearing the dress she was admiring. The shop owner gave it to her and took her to coffee. They flirt over the table. Back at the hotel, Garry comes out of the bathroom with Summer and hears his phone. He listens to the voicemail and tells Summer they are going on the run. He leaves a message for Dawn with the clerk and heads out. Dawn is walking with the shop owner eating ice cream, and she flirts very seductively. He seems embarrassed and Dawn wonders if he is not straight. He laughs, and says “sorry.” She lays it out why she thinks that and he lets her know he’s not.
Len and Pat pull into a picnic area. Pat is confused. He offers to take her to a restaurant, and she says no, this is alright.
Shirley and Heather find the hotel and Shirley discovers it’s a double room. But she also finds out that Garry left a message for Dawn. Heather runs off towards the Pit.
Len and Pat are eating lunch at a lovely area overlooking hills and paragliders. Pat is thankful for the opportunity to enjoy the view. She spies a scar on Len’s arm. He apologizes. She says something about regret, and he begins to speak. She says not guilt but regret. She tells him that she didn’t have a proper education. She left school the minute she turned 15. She never even read a proper book. He tells her he has two degrees. Sociology and Psychology. He says they aren’t worth the paper they were printed upon. He wanted to know why people are the way they are, and why society is the way it is. He says he was none the wiser when it was all done. He says even after all he read it never explained to him and why it turned out the way it did. Pat asks if she’s picking up regret. He says that all he is saying is every life is important. Yours, mine, everyone. Pat pulls out the letter. He wonders how it relates to the letter. She tells him she’s ready to head off and face what she needs to.
Garry is playing games winning prizes for Summer. He tells her that he was banned when he was younger. He wins a teddy bear for her. He bends down to give her the bear and Heather and Shirley walk past him. Shirley convinces Heather to ride a roller coaster so she can spy Garry from high up. heather is nervous. Shirley makes sure she gets in the front. Shirley stands and giggles. Heather spies Garry and screams his name. Shirley turns around and sees him. She runs after him. Garry tells her that he is not interested. Shirley begs him to give Heather a night. Garry reckons he’s keen on Dawn. Shirley says “Heather loves Garry, Garry loves Dawn.” He says he didn’t say he loves her. Shirley smiles. Garry says “no, no I do love her.” He heads off and calls the hotel to see if Dawn is there. They tell him that she is. He heads back excited.
Shirley lets Heather down, and they go off to do what they do best. Garry gets back to the hotel and opens the door to find Dawn on the bed making out with the shop owner. He rushes out leaving Summer there. Dawn calls after him. Garry heads to the bar and drinks. Garry calls Minty. Minty is wondering if he should answer. Minty answers. Garry tells him that he’s been a mug again. He begs Minty to come to hang out with him. Minty tells him that he can’t because he’s miles away in Brighton. Garry says that’s great I’m in Brighton! Minty looks up and in the doorway is Garry’s Mum. Minty tells her that was her son.
Pat and Len pull up to a sanitorium and she realizes it’s too late. She gets out and cries “I’m sorry Joan.”
