Stella is preparing a special meal for Ben, burgers with a twist. Phil tells her he likes plain burgers. She thinks if it is a hit then they can serve them to the kids at the wedding. Phil says he thinks that is fine. He tells Stella he was hoping for a quiet night with Ben. She asks Phil if he thinks it will be over the top for her to whip up a cake quickly? He says it’s fine but not to go over the top. Peggy comes in and wonders how many of the burgers they’ll have to eat. Stella says she ran into Honey, Billy, and Janet earlier and invited them round for dinner as well. Phil doesn’t seem thrilled.
Mickey is searching for Wellard. Bradley and Stacey are having a snog as Max watches from afar.
Bert is chatting up Pat about poker and its a game of skill. He is winding up Pat. She asks him if he fancies a game. He says he doesn’t play with women. She says they can play for matchsticks. She says she’ll round up a few players. Phil whinges to Shirley. He was hoping to take Ben to the park so Ben could show him his new moves. Stella’s having this party instead. Peggy watches them chatting and looks worried.
Chelsea and Dean are talking about their plan. Dean is curious how this plan is going to work. Chelsea is determined that they’ll wind Sean up so much that he’ll snap. Dean doesn’t look so sure.
Stella is hoovering Ben’s room when she spies the bag filled with the model airplane she tore up. She plays it off as an accident and apologizes for it. Phil says he will tell him as it would be better coming from him. Stella runs out after her parboiled potatoes. Peggy scolds Phil and tells him that Stella is making an effort for this family and he should appreciate it.
Preeti spies Mickey and calls out to him. Mickey finds a photo of Wellard at his doorstep.
Ben is so excited to be home and has a trophy from camp. Ben wants to go to the park to show him all his moves. Phil tells him that Stella has made a special meal to welcome him home. Ben is disappointed.
Max comes into the salon and hits on Tanya, but she puts him off because she has work to do. Max is angered by her lack of response to his advances.
Ben runs to hug his Gran and bypasses Stella. She asks him for a hug, and he tells her it looks like her oven exploded on her. Peggy tells Stella that hug will have to wait until after she’s tidied herself up. She looks like a wounded bird fighting back tears.
Max goes to the cafe and spies a sexy redhead. He smiles at her as she smiles at him. He takes off his ring and asks her if he can sit with her. He shamelessly comes on to her. They make introductions.
Ben is telling Phil all about camp and how much fun he had and how well he got on with the other kids. He tells him how he was made captain for the day and goes on and on. Phil smiles at him, and Ben asks him why he’s smiling. Phil tells him that he is different. Ben tells him he needs to tell him something, to ask him about something. Phil interrupts him and shows him the broken model airplane. Phil tells Ben he did it. Ben tells him it’s ok, its just kid stuff and he’s over that now. Peggy comes to get them for dinner. Ben looks worried.
Patrick is trying to put Pat off. His house is a wreck, and Pat tells him that they need to clean it so she can play poker. She is planning to school Burt.
Max is chatting up Sian and flirting. He invites her to play hookey with him down by the river with a bottle of wine. She turns him down. She puts him down and tells him she prefers her blokes with hair. Max walks off.
Billy and Honey come in for dinner. Stella is upstairs and tosses the house flyers into the bin. Phil sets Ben’s trophy in the center of the table. Stella moves it and says they’ll find a special place for it later. Phil tells her that he would like to go to the park so Ben can show him his new moves. Stella scoffs and says what will they think when they arrive, and the star guest is not there. Phil says that the star guest never asked for the dinner party. Stella looks hurt again. Honey and Billy walk in and interrupt the conversation.
Max is at home and Tanya walks in with Sian from the cafe. Max looks mortified. Sian smirks.
Mickey and Preeti are on the case to find Wellard and scope out the front door from inside so they can catch the person leaving the clues. Preeti says surely he can use a break and invites him to a drink at the Vic.
Tanya is opening wine. Sian reads Max the riot act and tells him she thought he was a creep at first, but turns out he’s stupid too. Max asks her if she’s going to say anything. Sian tells him no, her business is much more important than his stupidity.
Burt is in the Vic bragging about how he plans to school Pat. Shirley asks if there is a spot for her. He says no, one woman is enough.
Sean is chatting up Carly. Dean walks up and apologizes to him. Sean brushes off the apology. Carly thanks Dean for doing that. Mickey and Preeti are having a drink, and he gets a text with new instructions. Chelsea comes in and chats up Sean and begins to wind him up. Chelsea sits down with Dean.
Upstairs the dinner party is well underway. Billy is fussing about the burger and the fennel. Billy asks what it is and Stella says it’s a root. Honey says it’s a shame as Billy can only sell vegetables on the stall. Peggy chuckles and tells Stella she’s quite the cook. Honey asks if they are going to have food like this at the wedding and Phil says no. Stella asks why Ben isn’t eating. Ben declares he’s a vegetarian now. Peggys says “what since when?” Ben says since camp. Stella says he should be careful as changing your diet can have serious consequences. Phil asks him if he’s serious and not just playing up. Stella offers him beans on toast. Ben smiles.
Preeti and Mickey continue the stakeout watching the phone booth. Preeti flirts with Mickey, but he’s too daft to notice. Mo goes into the phone booth. Mickey reckons she could be the culprit. Mickey and Preeti run out after her.
Billy asks if Ben is going to give a speech at the wedding. Ben says maybe, and he could say lots of things about dad and Stella. Stella offers to bring the cake in to serve. She teases Ben asking him if chocolate cake is ok for a vegetarian. He says yes. Peggy tells Phil that Stella handled that well and that it looks like Ben thinks the world of her.
Mickey runs after Mo only to find it wasn’t her. They rush back to the phone box to find the money gone.
Stella is holding Janet and Phil smiles at her. Stella wonders why he’s smiling. He says “look at you holding a baby, cooking a meal and sorting out the world’s problems.” Stella smiles and says she’s “super Stella.”
Minty folds, followed by Patrick, leaving only Burt and Pat in the game. Pat goes all in. The bell rings, and Patrick sees Pat’s cards. Patrick walks Shirley in. Minty catches her up, and Shirley blows it for Pat. Pat and Shirley get into a fight busting up Patrick’s table.
Bradley walks into the pub and spies Max. Max asks him what he’s up to tonight. Bradley says he’s off to see Stacey soon. Max inquires about their sex life. Bradley lets it slip they don’t have one.
Preeti is trying to help Mickey break it to Gus that Wellard is gone. While they are chatting another clue comes in. Mickey is upset, and Preeti calms him down.
Chelsea bumps into Sean on purpose and accuses him of picking on women. The pub is watching as they argue and scream at one another. She goes in for the kill and says he’d know nuts with his mum. Sean catches on and turns it around on her and tells her he’d like to get back together. Chelsea rushes out, and Dean follows. Sean takes a bow.
Stella comes into Ben’s room. He jumps up. She is coming in to tuck him in, and he says he doesn’t want her to. She says she knows he was a bit off her earlier and was cheeky in front of others. She tells him it’s what happens when they are alone together that matters. Ben tells her that things are going to be different now. She says yes it will, as she’s going to be his step mum now. She tells him its time to put the past behind them and make a fresh start. Ben asks if it’s ok about the burgers. She says yes because I love you. Phil is outside the door listening. She kisses Ben and asks him if he is a vegetarian. He says no not really. She comes out and finds Phil. Phil tells her that all he wants is someone who gets on with his kids. He says that it’s made him think that maybe one day they could have a child. They awkwardly kiss, and he goes to get rid of Billy and Honey. Stella is on cloud nine. She walks into the kitchen and goes to throw away the burger. Instead, she tosses the bun and brings the burger to Ben. She tells him that she made the burger especially for him and it took her all afternoon. Ben says that she said it was his decision.
Chelsea and Dean are humiliated.
Phil is looking for Stella. She comes out of Ben’s room with an empty plate and tells Phil that it looks like Ben ate the burger as a secret snack. Phil cuddles her and tells her he’s been so stupid. She asks him why and he says because he loves her and he’s never said it. He says “I love you, Stella.”
