Dawn is handed baby Summer. She thanks the Midwives and Carly tells her she’s going to tell the boys. Meanwhile, May is in her car with a congratulations card.
Pat barges into Shirley’s carrying a dog. Pat says she’ll have a drink if she’s offering. Shirley tells her she isn’t and for Pat to leave. Pat opens her refrigerator, and it’s disgusting. Pat’s brought food for Shirley.
Ben and Phil are outside of the Queen Vic. Ben wants to tell Phil something. He tells his dad not to be angry. He tells Phil that he didn’t go to school and that Stella took him to the park to practice football. Phil looks perplexed. Upstairs Peggy and Stella are working on the food for Patrick’s party. Peggy thanks her for the help. Stella tells her she rather enjoyed it. Stella makes her move to get changed if there is going to be a party. Peggy tells her she’s darn right there will be a party. She’s made a delicious punch and moves the food downstairs.
Rob runs into May trying to go into the hospital. He grabs her and tells her that he thought he told her to stay away.
Pat and Shirley are talking, and Pat tells her that they say you can tell a person state of mind by their house. Shirley says she doesn’t buy that. Pat tells her that if it is true, then Shirley is royally screwed up. Shirley tells her that if they looked at her keyhole, they’d find a demented old drag queen. Pat says no drag queen would put up with her the sort of chaos. Shirley wonders if the Brady Bunch is getting on her nerves. Shirley tells her to say what she needs to then sling her hook. Pat tells her she heard what happened between her and Carly. Shirley says you can’t even burp without someone hearing about it. Pat asks her what happened this time. Shirley wonders what it has to do with her. Pat says she’s just wondering and wants to help. She tells her that Shirley prides herself on telling it like it is and if it shut her up, then it had to be bad. Shirley confesses that Carly wanted to know about her dad. Shirley says she couldn’t precisely tell Carly that she didn’t even know who he was and that it happened in the back of a car with a stranger. She tried to make it all romantic for her, but it wasn’t enough. Shirley tells Pat that if Carly touches her again she’ll flatten her. She asks Pat what she wants, to gloat? Pat gives Shirley a cigarette and tells her it’s a nasty graze she has on her arm.
Phil rushes into the Vic up the stairs to tell Stella that Ben has changed his mind and he’s going to go to the special footy camp. He can’t wait to go away. Stella is shocked. Phil calls the school to help get him in. Stella can’t believe what she’s hearing. Ben comes in and tells Stella that he didn’t get her in trouble that he said it was all him, Stella is still shocked.
Pat picks up a “Good Luck in your new home” card. Pat tells Shirley that her flat used to be her flat. Shirley asks really? Does that mean that if she’s a good girl that one day when she grows up, she’ll be a hatched faced old hag? Pat tells her “Pot-Kettle” the chances of her ever being a good girl are pretty slim. Pat tells her that all she wants to do is live a quiet life now. Shirley tells her that she can be quiet when she’s dead. Pat says that the way she’s carrying on that might not be too long. The fact that she’s living on vodka and cigs…does she even eat. Shirley kicks her out, and Pat won’t budge. Shirley picks up the dog and puts it in the hallway. Shirley wonders what she’s after. Pat tells her she feels sorry for her. Shirley calls her a patronizing old cow. She doesn’t want her to feel sorry for her. Pat tells her it doesn’t matter because she’s got it. Shirley tosses out the milk Pat brought. Pat asks her if she’s keeping the cigarettes.
Mickey, Keith, and Garry are fawning over Summer and Dawn in the hospital. Dawn asks where Carly is. They coo and tell the baby she’s beautiful. Keith says she’s going to be intelligent. Dawn asks Garry what he thinks of the baby. Keith asks Dawn what she’s going to do about Rob and May? Keith says she should get the law in. Dawn says she will but wants to do it tomorrow and wants to get some rest. Keith says they’ll all be there and if they try to get in security is all around and on alert. Rob and May are outside the hospital in the car. Rob asks her if she even thought about the trouble she could get in by being there? May, in an almost manic state, goes on to Rob about him being there and that he told her he was going to come straight back and that he didn’t say he was going to be there waiting. He said his baby was being born; he had to be there. She asked him if he’d thought about how she felt? Just as they are arguing they see Keith, Garry and Mickey come out of the hospital. Keith is on the phone with Rosie telling her about the baby. He tells her how big the baby was and that all is well. Mickey tells Garry he knows he fancies his sister. May says “she’s born then. She’s here. Her first day” and begins to sob. Rob says they should go. She asks him to call to find out how she is, how much she weighs. Rob says he can’t they have security on alert, surely they’ll not let him make a call. May begs him to call as a well-wisher. Rob is on the phone and finds out that mother and baby are well but can’t find out anything more. May is distraught, and Rob says they should go. May asks where they should go? They are holding hands.
Jim comes out to find Ghingis on his doorstep. Peggy and Yolande are walking and talking. Peggy suggests that Yolande is very brave being a woman over a certain age wearing that color (bright yellow) Yolande says she’s not a woman over a certain age yet though. Peggy laughs and says “let’s hope the passengers wear their sunshades” Patrick is packing up the boot with Yolande’s suitcase. Jim walks up. Patrick tells Jim that Yolande ravished him. He’s worn out and needs a drink, as he pulls on a bottle of rum.
Keith, Mickey, and Garry are in the Vic telling of the birth of Summer. Kevin is shocked to hear his Carly was there at the birth. Keith says that Dawn wouldn’t have made it through without her. Kevin is beaming with pride for his daughter being there at the birth. Chelsea is sour of course and says “it ain’t that special” Peggy says “well good for the pair of them, and she can’t wait to see them” Keith says that Summer is beautiful. He’s over the moon. He tells the pub the drink is on him. Ghingis is let into the pub, and he steals food from Patrick’s party food.
Yolande tells Patrick to behave himself and to avoid catching any more blondes. Peggy is throwing Ghingis out, and Keith comes chasing after him. Peggy is fit to be tied and tells Keith to get him out. Keith says she should feel honored as he doesn’t eat just any old rubbish. About this time Peggy looks up to see Yolande laughing. Yolande calls out “nice party,” and Peggy raises her fist and calls her a cow. Pat sees Shirley walking with two garbage bags and asks her if she’s leaving. Shirley just rolls her eyes and goes in the ally way of the Vic.
Rob and May are still in the car outside the hospital. Rob says they can go on a long holiday. May asks what they would say to each other. Rob says they would move forward. May says she wants to see the baby. Rob keeps focused on moving forward, new life, new country. He tells her that he loves her so much. May says again she wants to see her. Rob tells her that they can’t, and it’s over. He’s sorry, but there is no way she’s going to see her. She wants to talk to Dawn, to tell her she’s sorry. Rob says “are you serious.” May thinks they won’t know about her, that they were only warned about him. She has to see Dawn, to tell her she’s sorry. She begs him. How would she ever be able to live with herself, let alone live with him? Dawn is sore and trying to get back into bed. Carly says she could get her a rubber ring to sit on. Carly says she was filled in by the boys as to what was going on. She is so sorry for not being there to help her. Dawn says it’s ok. Carly can’t believe what she’s been through. Dawn can’t believe, and she will never make the same mistake again. Now it’s just the two of them. Dawn tells her she feels like everything is covered in gold and it’s all ok, and she is safe. Carly tells her she’ll be there first thing in the morning. Dawn is gazing in at baby Summer.
Stella is trying to talk Ben out of going to camp. She says there could be mean nasty boys there. She tells Ben she doesn’t want him to go. She is going to miss him and is he going to miss her? Ben says he is going to miss her. Stella grabs him and asks him again if he will miss her because she will miss her. He says yes. Stella is in tears. Ben runs down the stairs and says bye to his Gran. Peggy gives him treats and tells Ben to have a smashing time. Phil and Ben leave. Shirley is in the hall, and Peggy asks her what is going on. Shirley asks her if she owes her anything, she must owe her something. Peggy wonders what’s going on with this sudden departure. Shirley says, “greener pastures” And that she doesn’t want anyone pitty her. Peggy thinks Pat is running Shirley out of town. Peggy tells her anyone pitying her then she better make sure they eat their words. Peggy talks Shirley out of leaving.
Rob and May are in the hospital. He’s talking her through getting in to see Dawn. He wants to know if there is still an us. May tells him that she’ll only know after she’s seen Dawn and the baby. She says to him that he will know when she gets back. He says he will wait for her there. He kisses her. May turns to walk down the hall.
Shirley goes bac into her flat and starts cleaning up the mess. Peggy is in the Vic rearranging the food. Pat asks Peggy if Shirley is gone. Peggy says not that she knows. Pat tells Keith his front door was wide open today. Keith goes on about how safe the square is. Patrick is passed out in the Vic. Carly comes in and hears cheers. Deano asks her if she saw the baby come out. Kevin tells Carly he’s right proud of her. Chelsea tells Sean that this means Carly will be moving home. She tells him to not come sniffing around their house. Sean tells her that he and Carly are adults and they will work something out. Chelsea tells him that she knows he’s only with Carly to get back at her. Sean sets her straight and tells her that she isn’t even on his radar. Chelsea wants to know what he sees in Carly anyway. He says she’s a laugh, and she contributes to the relationship. She isn’t boring. The Vic is singing “for she’s a jolly good fellow” to Carly. Stella is on the stairs crying and pinching her arm.
May goes to the nurse’s station and announces herself as Dawn’s GP. The nurse is shocked as they don’t get many GP’s dropping in. May says she was very involved with Dawn’s pregnancy and they got very close. The nurse directs her to Dawn’s room but tells her that she is most likely sleeping. May tells her she can find her way. May is seen walking back to the mother-baby ward. Keith is making a speech in the pub about birthday’s and celebrating Summers birth. May looks in Dawn’s door. Dawn is sleeping. May walks in, puts a check and card down and scoops up baby Summer. She tells the baby she is all hers. May is heading out the door when Dawn tells her to put her down. May looks at Dawn crazily.
